Bamboo bedding: reviews, pros and cons

Looking for bedding that will be nice to the body? Try bamboo laundry: it will help you to have a healthy healthy sleep!

How is bamboo made?

Bamboo bedding appeared in Russia relatively recently, but every day it is gaining more and more fans. It is made of bamboo fibers. There are two ways to produce it.

Chemical

Caustic soda and carbon disulfide are added to bamboo fibers. The mass becomes similar to jelly, after a day of such a “starter” carbon disulfide is evaporated and sodium hydroxide is added. Then all the "unnatural" substances are thoroughly washed out, and only then the canvas is woven. This method is similar to the manufacture of viscose.

Mechanical

In the fibers add less aggressive substances - enzymes (protein substances of plant organisms). From this "mixture" is obtained pulp, from which the fibers are combed out. They are treated with steam, boiling and pressure - this is how the threads are formed, from which the bamboo cloth will be woven.

The first method is less expensive and more cost-effective. The second is more environmentally friendly, but such bamboo bedding is more expensive. All products manufactured in one way or another are marked. If the laundry was made by chemical means, then the label will be marked "bamboo viscose". If the manufacturing method is mechanical, then the laundry will be marked as "bamboo linen".

From reviews: “I have never slept on bamboo bedding before. It feels like something akin to cotton, but much softer. ”

1. Hygroscopicity. Bamboo fibers have a porous structure that provides air circulation. Such bedding absorbs moisture and evaporates it well - it allows the skin to breathe. In addition, hygroscopicity directly affects the thermoregulation of the body - one of the most important indicators of a healthy sound sleep. In the heat, bamboo bedding cools well and warms in cold weather.

2. Hypoallergenic and antibacterial effect. Up to 80% of pathogenic bacteria are not able to survive in bamboo bedding. Western scientists believe that this kind of underwear contributes to recovery from skin diseases. In addition, bamboo does not cause allergies and is particularly well suited for patients with bronchial asthma.

3. Lack of static electricity. Bedding from bamboo simply does not accumulate.

4. Resistance to detergent powder. On the production of bamboo bedding is well-dyed, but after numerous washings, it perfectly retains the original brightness of the color.

5. Appearance. Bamboo linen feels a bit like cotton to the touch, but it is softer and more tender. It has a specific "soft" shine - not as cold as rayon. By the way, bedding is silky, but not at all slippery.

From reviews: "The fabric is thin, durable, smooth as silk - and at the same time non-slip, well absorbs moisture, does not roll, does not lose appearance, keeps paint."

Cons of bamboo bedding

  • The main lack of linen from bamboo is that it is crumpled. Most often folds are formed on pillowcases. Even with careful drying of dents fabric can not be avoided. But in any case, bedding must be ironed, so the lack of forgivable.
  • Also, certain inconveniences are associated with the need to carefully follow the rules of operation of bamboo fabric.

Bamboo fabric: how to care?

Bamboo bedding is really durable and durable, but only if it is properly washed. With proper care, it does not fade and does not shrink.

  • The first rule: delicate wash. Temperature not above 30 degrees.
  • The second rule: Do not wring and do not tumble dry.
  • Third rule: use neutral washing powder. No bleaches and rinses - such chemicals can not only spoil the fabric, but also violate all the healing properties of bamboo.
  • The fourth rule: It should be ironed on a low temperature and only on the wrong side.

Reviews of bamboo bedding

We searched bamboo bedding reviews mainly on foreign sites (for example, http://www.overstock.com/Bedding-Bath/Rayon-from-Bamboo-Sheet-Set/3663206/customer-reviews.html) - it is much more popular abroad than in Russia . The reviews are positive, from the flaws - people say that bamboo bedding is very wrinkled, and some more - in the heat some people sweat under it.

Positive reviews

“Bedding made from bamboo is very pleasant to the body, it feels a bit like a biker diaper to the touch. Super soft and gentle, rustling a little. Of all the bed linen that we have, this is the best. Washed at 40 degrees in a typewriter, it remains as new. "

"I would call them perfect - if they weren't worth so much."

"Now that I have slept on bamboo, I will never go back to clapping."

"I was skeptical at first, but I decided to buy bamboo bedding because of the great reviews. I'm glad I did. The reviews were absolutely right. This is the softest, sleekest bedding I've ever slept on. It doesn't heat up I don’t think I’ll ever come back to clap. "

"I washed them several times ... no coils. It is worth every penny. Incredibly soft and light and breathing. They crumple a lot, but if you want a luxurious night's sleep ... This is your chance!"

“I ordered this bed linen because I have bamboo underwear that I wear like a soft cloud. Bed linen is the same. I’m not disappointed. However, if the folds and wrinkles on the linen bother you, this bed linen is not for you".

"After reading reviews about bamboo bedding, I decided to try them on myself. It is great !!! Even my husband agrees with that. So soft !!"

Feedback indicating disadvantages

"It keeps heat and moisture so efficiently - it feels like you're trying to fall asleep under a piece of plastic film."

"Bamboo sheets are comfortable, but they crumple like nothing I've ever seen. You can't make a neat bed with this bedding. The bed looks terrible."

"Bamboo bedding is very comfortable, but only after 6 - 8 washes it was discolored in several places."

"Bamboo bedding is definitely soft, quality. In short, this linen made me feel hot and sweaty! It keeps heat and humidity like a nylon tent, and I sweated a lot even in winter. Bamboo does not allow moisture to evaporate and does not absorb it's like cotton. The liquid literally settles on the top of the sheet. My husband didn't have this problem, however, so I guess it depends on the person. I sweat easily if it is a little hot. "

"Sleep a little hot, woke up with some sweating. She gave the kit to her son, who needed a new set, and he loves him."

“Although I really like the color of the sea Glass, unfortunately, it is easily soiled. Most women use body lotion or hand lotion at bedtime, and even my husband’s face cream is absorbed by bamboo bedding. Pillowcases darken after one night of use. As a result, it was difficult for me to keep bamboo bedding clean. Mild = yes. Practical = No. Sorry!"

Bamboo bedding: is it worth buying?

Definitely worth it. This bed linen is unique in most of its properties: durable, comfortable, and beautiful. The question is about the price: it costs much more than “regular” bedding sets - cotton, coarse calico, polysatin (prices start at 5,000 rubles).

But do not save on your health: for a good sleep, the body will say "thank you". Sleeping and waking up on bamboo bedding is a pleasure!
