By the way, the hands from the electric trimmer are also slightly numb. One liter of gasoline and oil was enough for an 8 hectare plot, exactly where the grass grows.

Why STIHL?
The farm had at the time of choosing the STIHL FS 38 gasoline mower and STIHL MS 250 chainsaw. There were no complaints for 5 years (I work constantly in the season of 6-7 months a year), none of these apparatuses were there, I wanted to preserve the uniformity of my reputation tool.
Why FS 55?
Considered to replace FS 38, because on the plot and around, besides grass, there are thickets of nettle, turnips, small overgrown trees and bushes. In this case, the power and quality of mowing 38 is often clearly lacking. At 38, the handle on the rod is not U-shaped, but ordinary, round under the grip with one hand, which, too, during long work is tedious. At 38, there is no vibration damping system, if working continuously for more than 20-25 minutes the hands are numb for quite a long time. Protection against overshoot by 38 is insufficient.
In the choice of 55, I proceeded from the criteria of power, ease of use not only by me, but also by my wife, use for particularly difficult parts of the knife instead of fishing line and uniformity (consumables, care, one service). As an alternative, he considered Oleo Mac Sparta, but decided not to risk it because he was a complete stranger.
In conclusion, I can say that I am satisfied with the purchase. Exploiting for the second month already, there are no complaints. As a result, even the eldest son (8.5 years old) starts it from me, not to mention that the wife mows without problems and does not get tired after 20-25 minutes. Neither the engine nor the rotation of the head on the hands is felt. The strap included is quite comfortable, but I would still replace it with a knapsack. I was afraid that at 55 the engine would be noisier, but I did not notice. I bought in istrumentclub.ru, in a complete set with a knife. Trimmer head and fishing line bought additionally. There are no complaints on delivery, everything is neat, brought the next day. By the way, if you take the trimmer head - keep in mind it is loaded with a fishing line.

I have this braid (I use only with a knife), Stihl FS38 (only with a fishing line) and saw Stihl. Plus, even a few acquaintances have braids or Shtil saws - so I can summarize something.
1. Spit is very effective. On my summer 40 acres presents any choice of what can be mowed. There are shady glades of forest grasses. There is field grass, which, if run, grows up to 1.5-2 meters, and then they lay down and new grasses grow through them. There is an overgrown with 3-4 meter weeds (wormwood, sedge, nettle, burdock, thistle) former garden. If you run it, then the tractor gets stuck in it. There is a cultivated grass lawn. There are bushes, cherries, plums, raspberries, blackberries, which climb everywhere. This braid mows down everything. For some types of herbs, it is highly redundant. But mows down everything, including bushes and mole slides. The main thing is not to mow close to the walls and fences, because it cuts wood well, and the knife gets dull about concrete and steel.
2. It is necessary to change the style of mowing. The diameter of the knife is much smaller than the diameter of the line with the line, so the mowing step should be smaller.But - you don’t need to edit and skew with a knife - you did it once and move on (except for situations with a jumped defense, more on that below).

4. I personally do not like knife protection. Plus, the defense plays the role of a shaker, and when the grass is high-dense-hard, then the protection has to be turned over its large volumes, which also prevents mowing.
And the rest - would highly recommend! I even cut the bushes to her, it is faster and easier than shears.
And about the complaints about the small tank. This is done specifically so that you at the gas stations let the engine rest and cool down. Overheat protection.
