Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 2015 Reviews

Advantages: - Sensor (after switching from the tablet is very convenient!)
- Backlight
- Image quality
- Duration of work (extremely rarely charge)
- Nimble, fast running
- wifi
- Browser
- sent to kindle
- collections (the ability to sort the books as you like, I have "Psychology", "Classics", etc., as in iBooks)
- ability to save quotes
- the ability to make notes
- Dictionaries (find an incomprehensible word in a book in a dictionary)
- books are displayed as a list, and covers
- Can be configured to show recently added / open books
- Books display the title of the author (as in iBooks),
War and Peace
Lev Tolstoy
not imya_fayla.mobi (in many reading rooms like this)
- the strongest of e-books
- Easy to disable unnerving some ads
(version with Special Offers, for CIS countries)
- Official Russian language support
- Magnetic cover (Chinese) enters sleep mode
Disadvantages: - No ePub support
- There are no official sales to Russia (there are some subtleties, you must carefully choose the seller)
- A fragile screen (as with all E-Link books (compared to a tablet), although according to reviews the most hopeful is)
Comment: - No page numbers.
I thought it would be very upsetting this fact, but reading in% (1,2,3 and so on) turned out to be quite enough. It also writes time to the end of the book (calculates the speed with which you read)
Switching from iPad, iPhone is convenient!
You need to be a little confused with the translation of books in mobi (throw all the books into the program, it will translate itself), but it's worth it.
The best that is from e-books for such a price.
By all measures
To use all the features you need to register at amazon

Advantages: - Great screen and backlight
- Convenient way to transfer books
- Work time (the rest is not the merit of a specific model, but rather a class of devices)
Disadvantages: - Lack of mechanical keys
Comment: One of the rare cases when it is absolutely clear what this device is for. Read books. Not too many settings, the Russian language did not appear immediately, without firmware, at least third-party software, but damn, it's very cool to read on it! =)

The charge is enough with active use for a week, with almost constant illumination. The dark tower passed for two charges and a week and a half. The eyes are really nicer than from the tablet. Pleasant non-slippery body materials.

And also, a way to reset books through an attachment letter to a dedicated email from Amazon, auto sync when there is a wifi. Threw books in the mail, from anywhere if you liked. Came home / to work and books already in the library. Very comfortably.

Of the minuses, sometimes it is not convenient to read with one hand. The touch still works sometimes not as expected, and scrolls back. On the other hand, it is a matter of habit.

I consider the absence of superfluous software, a player, and other things only a plus. There is no desire to be distracted by social or surfing, but, if it does, then you can check your mail also through the "experimental browser".

Advantages: About all the advantages of a lot already written. In the 2015 version, the Russian language can be immediately selected in the settings. Indeed, a smart device is a great screen, a touch-free sensor, works great with an inexpensive Chinese case, keeps charging for a long time.The backlight is uniform, has 24 gradations ("stripes") from zero to decently bright, comfortable to read in any light, or, in general, in complete darkness. It is collected very soundly, makes impression of reliability and stability. Light. Beautiful fonts. They are not very many (only 7 + publisher font), but who has normal vision, this is quite enough.
Disadvantages: I want to point out exactly those features of the reader, which grieve me personally, but may not be critical for others.
1) A small number of default font sizes - there are only 8. But this can be corrected by adding a special file.
2) By default, you cannot change the boldness of fonts in the book (you can use the FreeLib program)
3) Fields, even the “narrowest default”, are completely even for me and not narrow. I would have reduced them a bit to fit more text on the page. This can be done also with the help of FreeLib
4) You can not keep track of the usual page numbers. There is no footer with my favorite page numbers, author, title, chapters, no status bar. I love to see "where I read" and how many pages are left to the end.
5) Does not support favorite FB2 format. I have a huge library of books in this format. Need to convert books to mobi. This is not very difficult, but, again, additional actions are needed.
6) Advertising screensavers and the need to register on Amazon, for this, we again need certain "gestures".
7) You can not put on the reader release 2015 prog-reader, for example CoolReader
Comment: Elegant book for reading! BUT ... in order to completely "set up" it for yourself, beloved, you need to read the appropriate forums and spend time searching for information and some "dancing with tambourines" to bring the book into a rather convenient device.
You need to - register on Amazon and disable advertising (it can be free), install a special librarian converter program (I have FreeLib), with which you can download books in the right format, and also make some changes with fonts, if necessary.
I advise you to buy!

Advantages: 1. Fonts from the manufacturer are really optimized for reading, and together with the high resolution of the screen, they bring a considerable aesthetic pleasure (artifacts are not noticeable to the eye even when reading with small text);
2. Build quality and plastic. No crunches, no cracks, all parts of the body are carefully fitted to each other;
3. Easy organization of the menu in conjunction with the speed of work. Go through sections, adjust the backlight, open books, flipping pages - everything happens instantly, without delay;
4. The ability to use a magnetic cover that allows you to activate the book when you open the lid (not all competitors have).
Disadvantages: 1. Price! Taking into account the course of foreign money ... (including on branded accessories, which, moreover, quite problematic to get);
2. The absence of both an accurate paginated indication of the progress of the read (for example, p. 1 of 350, p. 2 of 350, etc.), and in the form of a filled line. Instead, the book considers, as it seemed to me, paragraphs and displays percentages, as a result, progress is seen as 10,444 out of 20,888 (50%) in a 600-page book;
3. Amazon services are completely useless in our country. There are no books in Russian, as well as books by Russian authors (the liters store, in view of the size of its library, would be a solid addition to the functionality of the book);
4. Not for a long time with the backlight turned on for more than 65% brightness (but all competitors are affected by this).
5. The need to remove ads in certain versions of the book (solved 10 second correspondence with the service Amazon). Advertising is tied to an Amazon account and is not a feature built into the book (in view of which I see no point in overpaying for a version without ads).
Comment: In general, in this price category, in my opinion, Kindle has no competitors, especially if we consider Kindle as a device for exceptional reading comfort. The closest competitors, Darwin for example, is inferior, and very strongly, by the quality of the text display (the fonts do not look neat even at medium size, and their replacement does not help), as well as by the autonomy and speed of work, due to the installed android shell. As a competitor, Darwin looks slurred, even considering the presence of a good case in the kit. Buken scared away with the inability to remove the spacing between paragraphs and some sluggishness at the same cost, but unlike Darwin gave the best picture and had a protective layer on the screen, which makes it possible to refuse to buy a case. Pocketbook did not consider it an alternative due to the presence of the same disadvantages of the two previous competitors, deficiencies, in particular, in price and quality of text display. Kindle for the same money offers a more powerful processor and exceptional advantages.
Kindle was perfectly approached by a Chinese plastic clone case with a built-in magnet, worth 900 rubles. And quite decent quality and with all the inherent brand attributes. There are no problems with the mobi format, everything is on an unknown resource that was once transferred to the tor network with its entire grand library, and also on the rest (well, nobody canceled converters). The lack of buttons for scrolling, I did not consider it a drawback, because the book, I repeat, is very responsive to touch. But for the sake of objectivity, for many (very many), the lack of buttons is a big minus!

Summarizing, I would say that reading aesthetes (and aesthetics in reading is a natural thing) the book produces.

Advantages: Weight, assembly, image quality (although I did not notice any significant difference with the previous paperwhit).
Disadvantages: Backlight. It is possible that I have a defective copy, but here, in the reviews, it was mentioned on the same dimensionality. In my book, horrible blackouts go all over the bottom edge, as if the fingerprints of someone's fingers. It looks, frankly, unpleasant.
Comment: Everything would be fine if it were not for the backlight. I did not immediately notice this problem (there is an advertisement on the list of books below), but it hurts my eyes when reading. I bought the book almost only because of the backlight - and such an unpleasant surprise.
Very upset because of this.

Advantages: it's kindle, build, software, resolution is better
Disadvantages: there may be broken pixels
Comment: More google "kindle 2015 dead pixels". How to check for yourself: display a white background, for example, a blank page of the browser, and tilt it away from yourself with the inscription “kindle”. I think it’s better to have a black background, but you need to upload a special image or page. My 3 burning whites all the time, one really bright and annoying. I try to put up. :)

Advantages: 1. Classic non-heaped software — something for which some scold Kindles. There is everything you need to read and little that is superfluous.
2. Simplicity, flawlessness, autonomy, convenience of the device and of course the best or one of the best screens (they only say that the Kobo H2O is better) is a classic set of Kindles.
3. Amazon Cloud Services. I connect the cord only to charge the device. All content is by air.
4. Ease of use of dictionaries and notes.
5. Low cost compared to the same pockets with better screen quality is nonsense, but it is. Such a policy of Amazon is said: the type is no longer a reader in the general sense, but a means of obtaining and reading paid content, therefore the price is at the cost price level.
Disadvantages: 1. The quality of the backlight compared to PW2 has not improved. All the same unevenness.
2. The backlight has become colder (subjectively like the warmer tone of the backlight)
Comment: Warranty changed PW2 to PW3. If someone has a goal is updated - I do not advise. The difference in resolution will be seen only on very small fonts. The backlighting has become colder and has the same unevenness (i.e., they didn’t improve). Several layers before the text (backlight, touch) also degrade the quality of the text, as well as on the previous model. On Kindle5, the text looked more like a book in spite of lower resolution. There is a question on energy saving - in P3 the autonomy is clearly not improved. From the changes I noticed (I did not see this in the reviews) that they changed the full screen update while reading. It became 1 out of 60, it was, if I'm not mistaken, 1 out of 16 or so. Megabyte at 100-150 decreased free memory. It seems to be all the changes. Well, perhaps an upgrade, so as not to see the inscription KINDLE on the front panel. Well, the box has become more concise.

Advantages: To the above mentioned advantages should be added:
1.Good battery! With a daily reading of six hours or more, a comfortable backlight and wi-fi on, charging lasts for 7-8 days.
2. Not buggy. I have an old reader of a famous Japanese brand, which I want to break because of the hangs :-)
Disadvantages: For me, no.
Comment: Convenient and extremely high quality reader. Only for reading books. For PDF files, for example, the tablet passes more. Amazon services in my opinion are very convenient. Sending books "by air" from any device and cloud storage of 5 gigabytes of files. You quickly get used to this and no longer want it differently. Books in the mobi format are downloaded completely without problems in any library.

Advantages: 1) Excellent backlit screen. The eyes do not get tired even after 3-4 hours of reading
2) Fast work. Opening books, paging, searching in the built-in dictionary - everything works relatively quickly. There are no comments to the work.
3) Magnetic cover-cover (purchased separately) automatically turns the screen on and off
4) Having a Wifi and an account with an attached credit card will be useful for downloading books from Amazon (and also books in English) right on the road. In some cases this may be useful for professional literature.
Disadvantages: 1) Attachment to the format of electronic books Mobi (+ a few more). For me, this is a minor limitation, because When buying books in most stores, you can easily select this format. In case of emergency there are online converters. Although for some it will be the decisive argument for buying another reader.
2) Several times "tightly" hung. Later it turned out that this is a documented reaction to negative temperatures. The problem is eliminated if you warm the device for 10 minutes at a positive temperature and hold down the unlock button for 15 seconds.
3) Relatively high price
Comment: Overall, very pleased with the reading room.
At the time of writing a review (11/22/15) one of the market leaders in technical specifications with an adequate price. Disadvantages for me are removable and uncritical.

Advantages: A clear screen, even with a close look at the screen, the blurring of fonts is not visible. Quick work e-book interface, backlight. Sending books by mail. Ability to take notes and highlight quotes in the book.
Disadvantages: Slightly uneven illumination at the bottom of the screen, in new batches of the device there may already be no such problem
Comment: Very pleased with the e-book. Before that was the Gmini Z6. It is just heaven and earth. The presence of the backlight and WiFi make it easy to read and download books. For Kindles there is also a program k2pdfopt which allows you to convert any pdf file for comfortable reading at 6 inches. Very handy program.I also note the proximity of the Kindle to the usual book: since the Kindle simply does not know how to completely shut down, it either reboots or blocks, so if you have a case with a magnetic clasp, you just close the cover and the book is blocked, if you want to read it, just open the cover and immediately begin to read, without any delay at all, as is the case with this book. I really liked this chip. Although initially wondering why you can not completely turn off the Kindle
