Reviews of ASUS RT-AC87U

Evaluation 5
Advantages: The speed of work, the interface settings, easy connection, a lot of chips needed and not very. Heats more than other Asus, but not critical.
Disadvantages: Price in the current conditions, the coverage is not so hot in my case
Comment: I took as a replacement Asus rt-ac56u, which faithfully served me for two years. 56th worked around the clock, supported 3-4 iPhones, iPad, stationary computer and 2 laptops + TV with media server. The problem was one-could not cover the whole apartment. This model works almost the same way — I don’t see a big difference, including the coating. The 87u stands in the same place where it was before 56u, I’m not special in this area, but after reading the characteristics-girth 460 meter I was impressed in my 105 sq.m. I hoped for the best result. Concrete walls break through but with an enema unfortunately. There are no more complaints, given that one watches movies online, two are cut in Dota 2 in different rooms and I look through HMS for 5 minus marks. Minus just because I can't read mail and news on the balcony in the morning))), the connection breaks. The router is in the center of the hut. Would you buy it if you knew all this — probably not. rt-ac56u snapped by the eyes. a toy.

Advantages: 1) High functionality, in fact it is not a big media center. There is a built-in DNLA server;
2) 4 ports of 1000 Mb / s and external USB 3.0 allow you to organize a NAS with an average data transfer rate of 40 Mb / s for reading and 30 Mb / s for recording, which is normal for a home. There is a built-in torrent-client;
3) after switching to firmware 3.0.0.4.378_7410, the router works stably without rebooting.
4) using AiDisk and ASUS DDNS services, you can allow any user to download via ftp from an external drive.
5) support for simultaneous operation of 2.4 and 5 GHz really helps to distribute traffic between devices. The 5 GHz signal works further and I cling all smartphones to 5 GHz. Two-room apartment covers completely, moreover, it takes from the 3rd floor to the shop at the entrance.
5) By deflecting the antenna you can adjust the signal coverage area.
6) I do not observe brakes at work and when setting up too. It is overloaded for a long time (30-60 seconds), but this is necessary only with the configuration, it is not reflected in permanent operation.
Disadvantages: 1) The built-in ftp server is not functional. Provides for reading the root list of files, but it only allows viewing and writing to allowed folders;
2) the built-in torrent client is very simple. It does not even allow to choose the path where to download a specific download, this is a general setting for the entire client. No Download Master extension for Yandex Browser, only Chrome, Firefox and IE;
Comment: I tried to install the firmware from merlin to deploy a normal torrent, ftp and overcome problems with unreasonable overloads of the router 1-2 times a week, but I ran into glitches:
1) after the firmware, the router did not want to get an IP address from the provider via DHCP, but when it was manually registered it worked;
2) the speed of Wi-Fi could not manage to raise more than 72Mb / s in both bands. On native firmware everything works at 150 Mb / s.
I did not experiment any more, I installed the firmware 3.0.0.4.378_7410 and the stability problem was gone.

Other functions such as guest network, parental control, dual WAN, QoS, VPN - have not yet been used, because It is more suitable for a small office.

Evaluation 5
Advantages: 1. Dual core BCM4709A processor with a frequency of 1GHz.
2. The 2.4 and 5GHz bands sit on two different chips.
3. Two USB ports, one of them is USB 3.0
4. Finally, they made separate buttons for turning off the LEDs and Wi-Fi.
5. Early Parental Control: you can limit sites, services to each individual device, as well as monitor traffic and visited sites in real time. What was previously unavailable in official firmware.
6. Availability of alternative firmware (Merlin, Tomato)
Disadvantages: 1. Price, to put it mildly - not a budget.
2. Quite noticeably heated.
Comment: Took to replace the RT-N66U.

Advantages: Easy to set up, confident signal.
Disadvantages: Not yet revealed
Comment: For those who need trouble-free internet, including wireless.
Worth the money. Probably the best router for a simple user at the moment.

Evaluation 5
Advantages: + Excellent performance on signal range and its stable transmission;
+ USB 3.0 for connecting SSD and HDD drives;
+ Convenient ASUSWRT WEB-interface and great opportunities for customization;
+ The best speed indicators at the moment among Wi-Fi routers (I do not take professional decisions into account because of their high price);
+ Modern hardware with two CPUs: 1GHz 2.4GHz and 1.2GHz for a frequency of 5GHz;
+ Support for Dual-LAN, which in fact gives a two-fold increase in performance (assuming a gigabit Internet channel).
Disadvantages: There are none at the moment!
Comment: I use the third day and only positive impressions. I bought to replace my old router ASUS RT-AC66U, because it was not enough for my needs and there was no full coverage of the required area of the house. In conjunction with the wireless adapter ASUS USB-AC56 shows the speed at the wired connection level of 100 Mbps. The latest firmware fixes a problem with the Wi-Fi range of 5GHz that users wrote about.
The first device on the market with integrated network protection:
- Assessment of the security of the router;
- Blocking malicious sites;
- Prevention of intrusions;
- Detection and blocking of infected devices and parental control at the hardware level, not to be confused with the firewall.
Of course, as many wrote this high-tech design, which is noticeable from the first time and stands out among similar devices from other manufacturers, it is a bonus to the acquisition =)

Evaluation 5
Advantages: A steep router breaks through 90 m2 of reinforced concrete walls with a bang, in the farthest corner of 60mb from the 100mb of the incoming signal, before that no such device could succeed.
Disadvantages: Not. Well, maybe only size
Comment: Pleasantly surprised. He took no hope that there would be a signal throughout the apartment, so for the sake of interest.

Evaluation 4
Advantages: design, powerful stuffing, interface, etc.
Disadvantages: the interface is localized only partially (I think it will be cured with the following firmware), a not very informative network map (partially fixed in firmware dated 03/18/15,5Ghz buggy is possible as it is connected with the new 802.11 ac protocol)
Comment: In general, the thing is super, and the appearance and power and settings and software - well, just a sports car from asus, but the whole raspberry was crammed with a periodic sign for 5Ghz, on iPhone 6 and iotaphone 2, apparently on the "ac" protocol, expressed in the absence of any ping to the external network and inside too, although the waffle seems to work, the router itself does not ping either, the pattern of occurrence is absent - that is, at any moment,
Waffles are turned on on the USER DEVICE, that is, on an iPhone and an iotaphone ... clearly something with DHCP at first sight .. dances with tambourines with frequencies and ranges did not help, support for asus - "We do not know .." with)

Evaluation 5
Advantages: The most powerful router! WI-Fi speed. Convenience easy setup.
Disadvantages: Not found!
Comment: Great router! When first turned on, he offered to carry out an easy setup. Everything is simple and clear! Firmware (official) immediately was the latest version. It remained on it. I do not need a fancy network, etc.
The router has a lot of advanced settings for all occasions! If you are interested, then on the Ukrainian ASUS website you can find the “Guide” in Russian.
The speed of 100 Mbit keeps stable, nothing cuts. Connected at 5 GHz.
Covers the entire apartment and is caught in the yard (6th floor). Easy to connect TV, smartphone. No problem shows HD from the Internet while simultaneously viewing on the smartphone and the work of the torrent.
In short, I got what I had long dreamed of!
P.S. I ordered a router from Germany, because in Russia, it is not officially sold. Cost in 13,700 rubles. with delivery to Moscow.
