Canon EF 8-15mm f / 4.0L Fisheye USM Reviews

Advantages: The effect of Aya Fish Aya is incredible. In this mode, it gives out all 180 degrees, the world is in the palm of your hand! Best for today that happened to use. For a portrait painter, this is the most important thing, especially if you don’t like to bother with manual focusing. The holder is convenient, the equipment is quite sufficient for the master, qualitatively, as always, on a level. Strange, but it turned out that he has no distortion. But then you get used to it. For natural shots, too, went perfectly: landscape shooting is fantastic.
Disadvantages: It is not thought out about fixing the hood lid, it’s not so serious when working with expensive photographic equipment.
Comment: Weight is not felt for such a serious unit, 540 grams is quite real. To him you need a good bag for reliable storage, since the lens is not protected.

Advantages: out of competition for creating circular panoramas
disclosed in rooms or vice versa, vast spaces
in direct hands you can make masterpieces (although this applies to any lens)

in photoshop / lightroom using the appropriate lens profile can turn into a cool shirk
Disadvantages: truly one drawback - the front lens is not protected by anything but its own caution
Comment: surprisingly sharp, the viewing angle is unaccustomed to blows the head, colorful and contrasting
you can even shoot with good growth portraits with caution: in the center there is no distortion
awesome for video
the problem is that this is not a staff member, and you will not be able to film everything with distortion, you need to either have a second camera or constantly change lenses

Advantages: Very good image quality, two lenses in one, moisture protection, high build quality, good autofocus.
Disadvantages: Chromatic aberration, bad cover-hood, high price, poorly suited for manual focusing.
Comment: I bought this fish for my EOS 6D to replace Peleng 8 / 3.5 (low image quality, completely manual) and Sigma 8 / 3.5 (excellent quality, but always missing the autofocus at infinity).

Immediately noticeable flaw - a huge cap, threatening to fall down one day and damage the front lens. To avoid this, I firmly fixed the lid on the blend - put a piece of the match from the front of the cover into the slot next to each button-lock (thus, having immobilized the clamps), on top of it stuck a piece of adhesive tape. The design reliably keeps on a lens a spring latch.

In terms of image quality, this lens is among the best fish on the market, despite the fact that it is a zoom. Sigma 8 mm has about the same quality (perhaps a little more prone to glare and light of the corners), and the Bearing is much worse. The resolution of 15 mm is slightly worse than 8 mm. Alas, HA is typical for all phishai, Canon is no exception.

Autofocus is almost perfect, which could have been expected at such a price, especially compared to Sigma, which has a slow buzzing motor that starts to slow down in the cold. But manually focusing is more difficult than on analogs: on the MF scale, the distance from 1 meter to infinity is only 1 mm.

It should be noted that here we have two specialized lenses (circular and diagonal fish) in the same package with moisture protection and excellent AF.The cost of a pair of such lenses is even higher than that of the Canon 8-15. By the way, frames made on 15 mm easily turn into ordinary wide-angle in RAW-converter, for this it is enough to choose a profile for a 15-mm fish.

I am satisfied with this lens due to its versatility and excellent quality. On the other hand, if you only need fish for shooting spherical panoramas, then you can safely take Sigma 8 / 3.5. And I do not see much point in Canon 8-15 for owners of sprinkled cameras, because they lose the circular fish, which is half the value of this lens.

Advantages: The best fish on Canon. In addition, a unique fish-zoom. Build quality. Metal dust and moisture protection.
Disadvantages: There is no better fish for Canon, so there is essentially nothing to choose from - there is old stuff and disgraceful zenith, and there is top fish this elka. Neostaki noncritical, but still: the lid and hood are dangling, a backpack can easily fall off from the mounts. I would like more luminosity when you have all the glasses from 1.2 to 3, 4 already somehow annoying. There are aberrations, but not critical ones.
Comment: The best fish on Canon. Do not compare with Zenithar and others. Convenient. On the full frame, it works as a super-shirik at 15mm - up to a circular (circular) fish with a view of exactly 180 degrees by 8mm.
It is necessary for: building creative compositions (which cannot be made with other glass), spectacular photos of dances, shooting in close rooms.
At 15mm does not distort the central third of the frame, the “barrel” only on the side thirds.
I do not want to sell, the lens is excellent.
Bokeh almost does not give, but he is not for that.

Advantages: Fisheye with variable focal length. On the full frame - from circular to standard diagonal fish, on the crope - from the "semicircular" to the wide angle.
One of the sharpest (if not the most) phishai, on all focal lengths and across the entire field of the frame. If the same zenithary in the full frame sharpness decreases in the corners, then for Canon it is almost like in the center. Pure, contrast and rich colors. Excellent keeps backlight. Very accurate focusing. Pleasant background blur. Durable, high build quality.
Disadvantages: The lid does not fasten securely, just touch the locks slightly so that it falls off - it is better to carry it in a case. Many people write about aberrations - but this is an organic feature of all phishai, without aberrations they do not exist, but here they are fairly moderate.
Comment: Hire on Sony NEX-5N. In principle, there is no better fish eye for sprinkling. It replaces the zenith, samyang and bearing, surpassing them all in all respects (except for luminosity and macro photography).
Once I had to run, I threw this canon and sony SEL18-200 into my briefcase. Frankly speaking, the canon emerged from that situation as a clear winner, without receiving the slightest damage.

Advantages: High quality glass; autofocus speed; workmanship, no backlash anywhere, no squeaks, suitable for full-frame and crown APS-C cameras; variable focal length; beautiful picture and color reproduction.
Disadvantages: Small chromabberation under difficult shooting conditions with low lighting; the lid does not hold at all; you take the camera out of the photo bag without it; price
Comment: Tool for creativity, work for hands and head. There is no distortion at 15mm on the horizon point, but the angle of coverage significantly exceeds the wide-angle. http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/t-tomis/view/503517/?page=6 Someone in the discussions wrote that it was impossible to remove the architecture, but this remark does not stand up to scrutiny and master the road going. http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/t-tomis/view/499531/?page=5 The lens distortion is really strong, but if you start correcting it in flash or light, you will not see any drop in sharpness, because the glass does not lose its high quality qualities in the picture, an example of straightening http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/t-tomis/view/501383/?page=5 to manage, not to be afraid of bold decisions, to try your hand at work. A lens for purposeful seekers of nature, if not for its price, would recommend to buy. Work examples: http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/t-tomis/view/502992/?
