Advantages: Glass is magical. This picture no longer gives anyone. Very sharp since 1.2.

This lens draws a distorted, but very beautiful picture!
So beautiful that got rid of the 50 / 1.2L, 70-200 / 2.8L IS, 70-200 / 2.8L IS2. He left only Zeiss APO-Sonnar 2/135 - but only because the "hare" has its own narrow niche of the "technical" shooting (Zeiss is much sharper, but also many times more boring)

Advantages: Unique color rendition, very beautiful bokeh, aperture, drawing.

Disadvantages: HA, AF

Comment: Lens for good staging scenes, if everything in the composition is set correctly, then this lens can produce a frame in a million. If you are trying to take pictures in the reporting mode, then there will not be any sense. Honestly, I still do not understand why the AF lives its own life, especially on f1.2. At a distance of 2.5 meters, the AF object falls in 60% of cases, although there are no obvious signs of backing and the front of the focus. At close distances almost always falls.
PS If you think that you buy this lens and mark 2 \ 3 \ 4, will give out masterpieces after each press of the button, then you are deeply mistaken. You need to be able to use this tool, and treat it with respect, and it will repay you with unique frames.

Disadvantages: Requires experience with this technique. There is no universality.

Comment: One of the most luxurious Canon lenses for relatively little money. Almost as good as the gorgeous Canon EF 200mm f / 1.8L USM in photo quality, but of course it has fewer features. If you compare it with the Canon EF 50mm f / 1.2L USM, then the EF 85mm f / 1.2L II is definitely cooler. Almost any picture taken in sharpness is a masterpiece ... you just need to learn how to shoot in this very sharpness.)) I have had a lens for more than a year and have never had any complaints about it. Slow AF operation is a feature of the lens (the “stretched AF scale” requires its slow operation). I like the plastic case more than the metal one. Especially in winter. After a year of operation, no dust was noticed inside, and there were no scratches on the case. A feature of the lens is the "trunk" that is blocked when the power is turned off. In the manual focus mode, the AF mechanic is also disabled. This is done to reduce the risk of damage to the mobile AF system. The lens is not for panoramas and surrounding species - they need to shoot specific objects (people, animals, objects). Very good for shooting small scenes and showing details. His element - twilight and artificial lighting. During the day, it has almost no advantages over the same EF 50mm f / 1.2L. The high sensitivity of the lens is needed not for shooting in the dark, but primarily to expand the dynamic range - to improve the quality of images. For black and white photography is a minus, for color - two pluses.)) An excellent lens, which, however, is completely unsuitable for reportage shots. It is impossible to compare it with short-focus "fixes" and even more so with "zooms". This lens is not for every day and working with it is a celebration for the soul ... The bottom line: a thing for perfectionists.
