Advantages: - The most affordable of serious Canon cameras
- Large, with a comfortable grip, all the necessary places are rubberized, and the control wheels are in place
- General ergonomics for 5 points (almost everything from a quick change of settings to a thoughtful digging in the menu is very fast - see the comments)
- The viewfinder is bright, quite informative in terms of getting into focus (plus the focusing screen can be changed)
- Swivel screen
- On-screen histogram in live view mode
- 9 autofocus sensors in their places in the center, along the edges and at the points of the golden section (switch in one press, it is much more convenient to 50 points in the center)
- All sensors are autofocus cross type, with a suitable lens autofocus is very fast and very accurate (including in tracking mode)
- In the "live view" mode, the camera can raise the mirror for half a second to focus as quickly and accurately as possible with phase sensors
- Saturated, but natural colors and GREAT transfer of skin tones (the main advantage of models from Canon)
- "Standard" color profile is really universal (but it’s better to raise the sharpness to 4-5)
- High detail images using high-quality optics
- Accurate white balance (maintains harmony between accurate color reproduction and the transmission of lighting atmosphere)
- There is a mode for manually entering the color temperature in K (say, if you know the color temperature of the lamps)
- Four useful and accurate metering modes
- The widest possibility to customize colors and tonal curve with the help of a proprietary program, as a result we can get any desired picture and save to cameras as a color profile
- A huge battery from 5D Mark II holds more than 1000 shots, or three not too intense shooting days
- Naturally, the "hot shoe" and in general compatibility with a bunch of lenses and accessories
- The working segment of the camera (the distance from the lens mount to the matrix) allows you to put a whole huge park of old optics without "dancing with a tambourine"

Disadvantages: - The viewfinder does not have a grid (it is decided by changing the focusing screen) and does not give 100% frame coverage, plus the eyecup would like more and tighter
- Buttons on the back and top panels and inside the rear control dial are pressed without a click, there is no confirmation of pressing
- Rear panel buttons (Q, Menu, Play) are recessed into the case, they are difficult to search and press blindly
- The button for previewing the depth of field under the bayonet is located and pressed with difficulty (but it is there)
- The screen brutally "blind" in the sun
- There is no fine adjustment of autofocus directly in the camera
- Noise level at average ISO values, especially chromatic (color) noise
- The dynamic range (the ability to convey hues in highlights and shadows) is narrower than that of competing products
- A light "warming" color rendition by default (can become very "warming" under certain shooting conditions)
- Red colors can "knock out" (nuances of shades disappear in bright light)
- The white balance shift is introduced only for all presets at once (it will seem uncomfortable to someone, and for good reason)
- Color profiles except “standard” and “neutral” seem slightly strange and tend to reddish shades.
- In the corporate program can not accurately configure the "monochrome" profile (sad for the hipster)
- The in-camera translation from RAW to JPEG is painful against the background of similar functionality from Nikon (see comments)
- The camera "likes" to collect dust on the mirror (subjectively)
- Plastic body (polycarbonate) subjectively looks cheaper and is more branded compared with the textured plastic from Nikon
- Big weight (for someone)

Comment: So what do we have in the rest? Excellent camera, one of the best on the market and, possibly, the best in its segment for the needs of semi-professionals. The competitors are the older Sony and Pentax models with their “features”, as well as the gorgeous Nikon D7000 (the newer D7100 is significantly more expensive - it's harder to compare).
In short, Nikon will give you slightly better colors for landscape shooting right out of the box, it has less noise and a wider dynamic range, but serious problems with skin tones (and many, many photoshop does not remove them completely). If you are not interested in portrait photography as such (not reportage), take Nikon. For atmospheric, aesthetic portraits Canon is adapted much better. In general, both cameras are beautiful, and the choice is always the photographer.
Let us comment on some of the features of the 60D. The quick menu (called by the Q button) has a strange flaw - both disks change the value of the currently selected setting, and use the joystick buttons to choose what to configure (it was better to use one of the disks for this — two of them as in the main menu).
The noise level of the newest cameras Nikon and Sony is really lower (in the case of Sony, thanks to really cool noise reduction). But the colors are a little less natural. The problem of chromatic noise (if you notice it at all) is solved in two clicks in the same Lightroom. At the same time, there is a big difference in terms of noise with the "younger" 600D - bear in mind, the latter gives more color noise (perhaps otherwise the camera processor works). Noises at 60D (if you remove the color component) are harmonious enough and somewhat resemble a film grain.
For a more comfortable work with the landscape, I recommend setting up a custom Picture Style through a proprietary utility (slightly lower the saturation of warm colors, increase the saturation of cold, lighten the green shades, but make the blue ones darker).

Advantages: 1) Swivel screen
2) Manual "setting the color temperature" ie BB (I liked both in the photo and in the video that I can choose myself: make the image a little bit warmer or a little bit cooler)
3) Many people say that the screen is BEAUTIFUL IMAGE, but when I shoot a video, I can see the real image incredibly clearly and correctly while shooting, and when customers show photos after the shot, they immediately start to pose more confidently, rejoicing at the quality of the image seen on the screen, yes in general, any small image looks much better than exactly the same, but larger.
4) Battery information: you can find out how many percent of the charge is left with the battery.
5) Large viewfinder. Until 60D was 1100D, the difference is immediately visible after looking through the 60D viewfinder.
6) Ergonomics is simply divine, put white balance on the "set" button and now I have everything under my thumb and forefinger, using the buttons above the secondary screen is very convenient.
7) The image is really much better than 1100D. Although I used to think that the matrices of even such cameras are very similar.
And a lot of all sorts of nice little things (for example, a quick focus) about which I learned during use

Disadvantages: 1) Only waterproof battery compartment. BUT, after thinking logically, I realized that if I dropped the same 1100D into the water, the water would immediately go to the battery, which would damage the SLR. And the 60D will have a little time to get it out of the water, pull out the battery and dry the camera, and after that it will work as before, well, maybe with some frivolous problems. it turns out it is not even a drawback.
2) I was a little upset when I didn’t find the BB / Breck Shift feature in the video

Comment: In general, I can not imagine what it might not like for that kind of money. I have been looking for a part in which I’m really disappointed for several months, and I only found it not in 60D but in myself, that having such a wonderful unit I sit at home and write this text instead of going to photograph and shoot video :)

Advantages: Swivel screen, ergonomics, close to older models, no touchscreen
Disadvantages: Screen embellishes colors
Comment: At the moment, after the release of 70D is the best choice of SLRs in terms of price-quality ratio. Now, for 20 and a little thousand rubles, you can take quite an adult apparatus, which at the time of release cost almost twice as much. And do not look at the novelty of the digic 4 processor there or 5. For 90% of people there will be no objective difference, for example, the 650D is slower than the 60D, although on a new processor. The point is in the class of the camera, in the rate of fire, in the convenience of use. Canon and in some soap trays puts the digic 5, it does not make them better than professional cameras. In general, shoot, have fun and be sure to buy a good high-aperture lens in a pair to this beautiful camera.

Advantages: - Conveniently lies in the hand;
- The rotary screen still proved very useful in some conditions);
- A large battery, the 16 GB card ends faster, and the battery is still more than 50% alive - at least with me (RAW);
- a very convenient arrangement of buttons, although not quite standard because of the swiveling screen - I got used to so many that everything is absolutely to the touch;
- fast focus. 9 points are enough for all my life I take only one central shot, I frame it after focusing - and no problems !;
- no backlash, the assembly is very decent (made in Japan)
- additional screen - I only look at the settings for it, I can’t imagine how I used to use the main one for this.

Disadvantages: - ISO workers - up to 1600, 3200 already have a lot of noise, requiring strong handling in the lightroom. - it grieves strongly - this is already a small kick towards FF;
- not ff - although what I’m talking about;) it’s still a camera for an advanced amateur than a pro; Although I note that for beginners wedding photographers - not a bad option;
- the built-in puff I personally don’t need anything, I worked once or twice - only for testing, I didn’t open it again)
- there is no tracking focus for the video, although I do not shoot the video, but this is a minus;

Comment: In general, the camera is very sound. Before her was a Canon 1000D. The difference is not comparable!
Take off this camera is a pleasure.
All that I personally paired with this camera is missing is only two things:
full frame, ISO workers up to 6400, but I don’t position it as a camera flaw, there’s a price issue.
I recommend to buy for those who have already passed the stages of 450-1000D cameras.

Advantages: Like everyone, it lies well in the hand, convenient control, swivel screen (although I rarely use it, but it can be very useful for macro shooting or shooting a fixed object from an unusual angle). He often helps me out. I think it will be useful for you, and if you don’t need it, don’t turn it, that's all.
18MP is a huge plus. I myself realized this when I first sprinkled frames without losing quality. Can be sprinkled with confidence. Detailing is preserved at the same time and it pleases. You will understand this yourself when you do not correctly distribute and begin to trim the excess.
The menu is clear, you can see what and where, you do not need to read the instructions once again to find this or that item. This is a pretty good focus in Ai-servo, but it often misses if an object moves at a very high speed or if there is a barrier on the way or when several objects are moving randomly at once. But in most cases, 9 points are enough. I myself shoot reports and I can say that the focus is sure, but not always. And in general, at the central point, it rather quickly focuses.
The Live View mode is well organized, although it has a slow focus, but to the point, if accurate, it is accurate. It is very convenient to change the exposure parameters in the Live View and see how the exposure changes.
The battery lasts a very long time. He filmed two dog shows of 2000 frames without charging. Another 10% charge left. I was extremely surprised.

Disadvantages: Mode switch with lock. The blocker slows down the whole process of shooting. At first it was very hard to switch from Av to Tv and so on. Now rented exclusively in M mode and not even worried. Inaccurate exposure metering in automatic modes. The "Sport" mode is a good mode for beginners, but one thing, the pictures in this mode are overexposed, that is, overexposed. Strongly lifts ISO, even where it is not necessary. In the "Sport" mode, with caution you need to shoot white objects on a sunny day. Auto ISO also does not work exactly. Therefore, you need to turn everything handles including the head and the only way.
The buffer is quickly filled after a long series. The camera can not continue to shoot after filling the buffer, and it sometimes strains. But I understand that this is not a reporting camera and it’s just silly to demand a recording speed from it. The solution is to shoot at 10 megapixel size or wait for the right moment and then shoot a series. Well, or shoot in case of emergency only in Jpeg.
What else to write about the cons, if only that the buttons are flat to the touch. At first I clicked and did not understand whether I clicked or not, but over time I got used to it.

Comment: What can I say, the camera is not bad for your money. Moreover, it can be bought now for 25 thousand rubles. They write that the camera is worse than 40D, 50D only because it is not from magnesium and the speed dropped, but it is not. Yes, the speed has decreased by 1 frame in total, and that this will prevent you from capturing the dynamics. 1 frame is not critical. Regarding magnesium, I agree that the camera does not inspire confidence to the touch, but this is something to compare with. When compared to the 400D, 450D, 500D and 550D, then the 60D will inspire more confidence in terms of workmanship. In general, whether it is magnesium or plastic, the material does not affect the image quality.
If we talk about heat and moisture protection 60D, it is clear that it is not bad. We had to shoot both in the rain and in the snow, and oddly enough, nothing happened to him (although risked). And this is despite the fact that it is not a magnesium alloy. Follow the instructions and nothing will happen.
At least, if you don’t like the 60D, you can buy 7D or second-hand 50D, but do not forget that the 7D has an adult color measurement system (the processing is complicated), and many beginners who don’t understand photo processing in FS will spit it out. They removed the white balance button, and why is it needed if most people already take pictures in RAW format? Photoshop will solve everything.

Comment: I took a second camera for 5d mark2 for shooting video.
I did not expect much from this camera. but starting to work with her, it turned out that a very pleasant thing)) was very surprised that for such money there was so much that was pleasant in the cell.
with good light gives almost the same picture with 5d.
but above 1600 iso no longer worth shooting. 1600 on noise as 3200 on 5d.
but wait no longer.
Crop is even useful when you need a long focus))
when you take a hefty 5d coffin - somehow you get upset right away)) and you don’t take a lower point without a monitor. and here everything is easy, toy (in a good way) with quite adult quality.
shorter joyful camera))

Comment: Moved from 500D, which shot about 3 years. 60D significantly wins in all respects. The quality of the pictures makes me very happy, even with the old 18-55 IS2 and 50mm 1.8.
In his hand, he is much nicer: a little heavier and larger than the 500th, which is a plus for me. On the same ISO in similar conditions, the noise is much less pronounced and they somehow look better (I do not know what this is connected with). Finally, the annoying soapiness of the photos has gone (although the lenses are still the same).
In general, I believe that today there is no better offer in this segment in terms of price / quality ratio. I bought for 28,900, very pleased with the price and the store (it is not allowed to write how :).
All good shots!

Capacious battery (~ 1000 shots)
Comfortable joystick (for example, to select focus points)
Disadvantages: Perhaps the only drawback is that when you shoot in RAW after 10-15 frames, the camera “freezes” while recording to SD (even a high-speed card does not save here). But this is not a disadvantage rather, but a feature of serial shooting in RAW, nothing more.
Comment: Here, many people write about such shortcomings as:
1) "removed the lens alignment" - but few know that on the 50d this button really did not change anything. Verified
2) "removed the screen shutdown sensor" - but why even the screen when shooting? All information is displayed on the top small display.
3) "reduced batch speed to 5.3 frames / sec." - well, with 18 mp, of course, the speed of the series drops, but in practice it is imperceptible.
4) "batteries and high-speed SD cards are expensive" - I myself thought so, until I found normal places where everything is sold at affordable prices.
about reviews like "no video autofocus", or "in live view mode, the camera slowly focuses", or "no built-in stub" says nothing at all, not serious.
conclusion: the device is decent, comfortable, high-quality. never worse than 50d (50d with my wife, so I know what I'm talking about), with whom he is constantly compared.

Advantages: 1. Excellent build quality
2. Rotary screen, convenient for video and macro shooting. No need to wriggle or buy a curved viewfinder.
3. Weight, it is lighter than its "two-digit brothers." Not very heavy, but sufficient to hold comfortably in your hand.
4. Electronic "level", you can set the camera perfectly evenly on a shative.
5. Lever on / off under the mode dial. Many people do not like it, but for me it is so very convenient!
6. Optional backlight screen
7. Convenient menu, do not get confused
8. Video in FullHD
9. High ISOs
10. You can set the sound recording level when shooting video
11. Built-in RAW Converter
12. Small non-essential nishtyaki, in the form of copyright settings directly in the settings, art filters, etc.

Disadvantages: 1. Removed the lens alignment, but not for everyone it is important.
2. Removed the screen shutoff sensor, when the face is presented, perhaps this is due to the change of the construct in favor of the rotating screen. But this is not critical.
3. Reduced burst speed to 5.3 frames / sec.

Comment: And now all the cons, about which others shout:
1. Non-magnesium alloy.
What century do you live in ?! Aluminum alloy coated with durable polycarbonate, gives no less strength, while reducing weight.
2. Too easy.
I don’t understand this at all, but why heavy ??!
3. SD card instead of CF.
SD is no worse, no slower.
Do you have a lot of CF? So sell them, and buy yourself a pair of SD at 32GB, the price they do not bite.
4. Removed the mini-joystick.
Far from everyone could reach him with a finger, controlling the camera with one hand. Now there is such an opportunity. All buttons are shifted to one side, allowing you to click on any button, without the help of a second hand.
5. When shooting video, there is no autofocus.
He is nowhere to be found! Neither Mark nor 7D.
6. The matrix is the same as the 550D
You can breathe, the same matrix and 7D.
7. There is no hood in the kit with the lens.
If you bought a camera with a whale (facepalm), you generally can not listen.
8. There was a video, swivel screen, LiveView - this is pop, for fans, Canon simplifies everything, horror, panic.
Old Believers indignant. If you are such hardcore players, buy a tape, why do you need a figure at all?
9. Megapixels crammed.
Understandably, for print A4 enough 8mp. Here's how you come up with noise, before printing, you will understand how wrong you are.
10. Removed sync for flash.
In the age of wireless, syncing for ignition, it turns out to be a terribly necessary thing, yeah.
---------------------------------------
Many people do not like that there was a locking button on the mode dial.
It was decided to put it after a long criticism of the owners of the 5D MkII, because there the wheel spun itself, clinging to clothes. And many at their own expense put the same button on their pennies. Here, Canon and reinsured.
In general, I did not find reasons for harsh criticism. The quick handling of the Canon 60D is up to par.
As for the picture - predictable, Canon-ovsky, very familiar. The noise level is satisfactory enough so that you can afford to shoot at ISO6400.
I liked the camera.

Disadvantages: There is no built-in image stabilization, which will manifest as a minus in the case of using unstabilized lenses.
Strobe autofocus lights (you need to raise the flash, there is no special backlight).
There is no screen cut-off sensor when a person presents to the viewfinder (which the younger 550D has).
There is no AF micro-tuning for different lenses (which the 50D had).
In the viewing mode - among the shooting parameters the focal length of the lens is not indicated.
In the "live view" mode - slow autofocus.
During video shooting - there is no continuous autofocus.
SD memory card (minus only for those who have accumulated a lot of CF).
There is no blend included (usual situation for Canon lenses).

Comment: Forming your attitude towards the Canon EOS 60D, it is best to distract from the digital designation of this model. The fact is that the Canon 60D is not exactly a direct follower of the 50D, as you might think from a comparison of their names. The niche of the "older amateur" DSLRs (they are also the "junior professional"), which previously occupied the 50D, has now been stratified. The upper level took 7D, the lower level - 60D.
Of course, any division of cameras into “amateur” and “professional” is very conditional and relative. A professional can make great pictures on a soap box, and an amateur teapot can buy an expensive machine and take pictures for the soul without earning a penny on it (I speak without any irony, for the desire of a person for the better is always commendable). But still, if such a rough, tentative and far-fetched division is to be held, then I would call the Canon EOS 60D the amateur top, and the Canon EOS 7D the beginning of the professional.
Canon 60D, of course, is a great opportunity to upgrade from younger Canon mirrors - from 300D and 1000D to EOS 550D. Those lucky ones for whom the 60D will be the first SLR camera will not be disappointed either.
As for the owners of the Canon EOS 50D, or the previous “two-digit” EOS models - for them the transition to the 60D will make sense, by and large, for the sake of the video capabilities, and at the same time be accompanied by some restrictions on functionality (for someone absolutely unimportant, but someone and significant). An uncompromising upgrade option with the Canon 50D remains the Canon 7D (and, of course, older models).
