In addition to this model, I compared compact analogs with a large matrix from Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Canon, Fuji, Sony and Samsung. Almost all disappointed, except for the technology of two companies.

First of all, I check the noise of the matrix using a special test, since this problem is able to spoil all the other advantages. I think that the ability to photograph without visible noise at high ISO is very important for the tourist - in museums and churches often the lighting is very weak. And if you do not see the noise in your photos - this does not mean that other people do not see the noise.
Canon G-16 has undeniable noise advantages:
1) Even if you shoot in JPG, then very little noise starts from ISO 800-1000 and up to 1600 is quite working. Few of the competitors, even much more expensive, behave so well at high ISO. However, many people will not even notice this, since browser programs and other primitive viewing programs clearly simplify images and crush noise, regardless of the viewer's desire. It should look only in Photoshop with a scale of 100% and on a high-quality monitor.
2) Better situation in RAW. But where is better? Few cameras with larger matrices, incl. SLR, can boast such sensitivity.
3) Decent high definition lens.
4) Convenient control for a person accustomed to a professional camera with a large number of manual settings. All the necessary parameters are easily and quickly accessible.

A picky photographer looking for a second camera to his “SLR” and well understanding quality will be pleased, especially considering the reasonable price. G16 is able to make photos no worse than budget "DSLRs."
Earlier, I bought a Canon G-15 for my daughter and also checked it. Not much difference was found between the G-15 and G-16. The video did not shoot.

Comment: Photo quality is much better than the Canon 600d with a whale lens.
Automatic - super! All manual settings are very convenient and I like very much that the result is immediately visible on the screen, which will work out (in 600d the live view mode is very slow, so it’s absolutely impossible to use it)! Blur background - beautiful!

Now all my friends, having got acquainted with the Canon PowerShot G16, wish themselves the same. And it has a great slow motion video feature. In my case it is very convenient when shooting trampoline)))

Disadvantages: - I would like a slightly wider wide angle, and a larger matrix, so that the quality of the pictures becomes generally excellent, but then the camera size will increase significantly or not, but then you have to sacrifice either the focal length range, or the aperture, and the camera will become less universal .. .
-sound during video shooting could be a little better (a noise filter could be a bit more efficient)

I bought because of the high-speed serial shooting - before the children turned out “a second after”, the cameras did not have time. And with high-speed shooting - the thing is all on time. I photograph almost only in this mode. (The memory card quickly ends, but that is another question;) take a bigger size and should be a high class)
And I was very pleased with the photosensitivity: in a room without a flash I am taking pictures now, even in serial mode, it turns out very worthy.

Advantages: Smart on the focus, but the brakes DSLR 1.5 times. Rapid - 12 frames per second. There is a mode HDR - 3 frames are made at a speed of 12 frames / sec. Good noise. Great video: FullHD 60 frames / sec, stereo. There are no restrictions on shooting time. Image stabilizer works in video mode. Settings - horror (you can spend a whole year to study their combinations). Strap through the neck - fotik felt, but the neck does not pull. The screen is not swivel, lens with automatic shutter. A large-diameter lens (compared to other soap cases), with an optical stabilizer and quite high-aperture: 1.8..2.8.

Disadvantages: The small matrix is ​​the only significant flaw in this fotik. In the video mode, the stabilizer is sometimes lost and a “jump” of the frame is obtained. Also in the video mode, the autofocus slows down (so we first focus and then turn on the recording). Can not FullHD with a frequency of 50 frames per second, but we are still in the PAL zone ...

I have a Canon HV10, Sony SLT-A55, Panasonic HC-X920, Canon G16. What can I say: the G16 completely overlaps the HV10 in the video area. The HC-X920 video shoots steeper than the G16 and the chip is not even in picture quality (the quality is at the height of both devices), but in the hybrid stabilizer and the convenient grip HC-X920. G16 is a camera in form, so it is rather difficult to hold it in your hands during video recording (sometimes a shake in the hands is “struck” by the stabilizer). SLT-A55 - overheating of the matrix really infuriates ...
Buy for this camera large capacity flash drives - from 32GB (Class 10+), t. It is very likely that you will shoot more video on it than a photo. About the battery - enough for 1 hour of video shooting. So buy a spare ...

Why is there a viewfinder when there is such a cool screen - I don’t understand :)

Advantages: A bright, high quality photo for this category (including at full zoom), video - 1080p60 at the level of good video cameras + records sound well. Excellent stabilizer.

Disadvantages: Slightly heavy, the matrix would be bigger (although with such an objective lens and so well), expensive. Nope DLNA! (why then wi-fi is not clear at all).
