Reviews of Sony 70-300mm f / 4.5-5.6G SSM (SAL-70300G)

Evaluation 5
Advantages: for a crop - super focal - 105 - 450 ....., portraits are super, the quality of performance is super - I want to touch it all the time - the G series after all.
Disadvantages: weight)), diaphragm 4,5
Comment: I bought the first 10 pictures in the apartment today, I was pleased, the combination of A-77 + this miracle + 58th flash - just the eye does not rejoice ..... the weight really is felt, the hand gets tired, but you stop noticing it as soon as you see great pictures. The focus is excellent - it exceeded my expectations. The ultrasonic autofocus motor is not audible at all.,
a diaphragm of 4.5 - of course it would be nice if it were at least 3.5, but with a flash it is not critical,
the blend is not small - but I think it will cope 100% in sunny weather. Maybe it will protect the glass from drops when it rains))).
On the whole, the lens gives maximum solidity - attracts almost all passers-by)))
for a long time he doubted the necessity of this purchase, but now I realized that this was the right decision! ...)))))

Advantages: Dignity weight!
Excellent picture quality, excellent sharpness across the entire field of the frame and the entire range of the DF, compact size, light weight (for lenses of this class), fast and confident autofocus, minimum focusing distance of 1.2 meters, build quality.
Disadvantages: 1. The lens is really dark! Starting from 90mm DF, the maximum aperture is f5, and starting from 135mm f5.6, that is, more than 2/3 of the entire range!
2. The cover supplied in the kit has only a decorative and applied purpose, it will not protect either from sand, moisture or impact. Suitable only for home storage.
3. Unjustifiably large, in my opinion, blend. It is 100 mm long, there are situations in which, due to its size, it is inconvenient to use. And now a couple of times I had to close my hand from the sun.
Comment: For more than two years of use, the lens showed itself only from the best side, both in terms of reliability and image quality. Lack of backlash, dust behind the front lens, although already several times I carried it with me to the mountains. Exceptional autofocus work! Unsharp photos in the studio (rented A850) are almost absent even with a quick survey and rather weak ambient lighting! When shooting sports is also a great result. 70-300 G definitely worth the money, although at the beginning of use in 2010, I did not think so.

Advantages: 1. Constructive (weight, size, workmanship, range of focal lengths);
2. Optical quality (lens design, uniformity over the entire frame area);
3. The presence of focus limiter, focusing speed, silent SSM
Disadvantages: 1. Rather a statement of fact than a disadvantage: more battery consumption (compared to "screwdriver" lenses) due to SSM.But maybe it seems so to me.
2. The price could be lower ... ;-)
Comment: A step forward after the legendary "can" (Minolta 70-210 / 4) is lighter, more compact, faster, the longer end is 90 mm longer.
But behind the “can” there remains a more “unkillable” construct, a 1/4 aperture over the entire range of focal lengths. And, of course, the price is 4-5 times cheaper :-)))
They coexist peacefully with me ...

Advantages: Sharp, silent, convenient range of focal that on kropy, that on FF
Easy, small (for 70-300, of course)
Dust and moisture protection
SSM, rear focus (front element does not move when focusing)
Autofocus limiter
Black case
Disadvantages: Rings zoom focus "on the contrary" - not critical, but at first it is terribly unusual
Dark - forget about the premises
GIANT Blend
solid plastic
the price for a dark 70-300, albeit sharp, and motor, but still
Comment: Wonderful objective for anyone who is not ready either morally or financially for serious telephoto. You lose the light, but you win very noticeably in weight, size, and price. Very versatile, good bokeh, the focus calmly keeps the bird in flight (examples in my i-fotah). Plus, the black case does not attract anyone (but with a blend you spoil the dimensions)
With a blend and a pulled out trunk, the unit is truly masculine, be prepared for this, but in the traveling state it is compact. And most importantly - sharpness, it does not ring, like 70-400, for example, but it doesn’t wash it, moreover, from the open, which gives an extremely pleasant pattern.
