Advantages: I have a third generation device (MD-CD1mkIII), so everything about him:
CD part - PHILIPS
The MD part is SHARP.
"Ears" for removable rack rack, can be used as a household appliance.
You can connect a computer keyboard with a PS / 2 connector for controlling modes and for naming tracks on MD.
MD supports SP, MONO, LP2, LP4 modes.
Accelerated (x2, x4) CD rewriting on MD with one button (without loss of quality!)
Smooth change of CD playback speed up to + -15%.
CD-RW, CD MP3 discs are supported.

Disadvantages: Neither a HiMD disk nor a simple HiMD formatted format is supported.
The disc is hot in the CD drive - critical when using CD-RW discs - up to the loss of playback capability.
Specific "professional" design.

Comment: Bought for home use, I can not get enough. All sorts of features. In fact, these are two devices with separate entrances and exits, but in the same package, and allowing recording from CD to MD. Even on the remote control, there are separate buttons for controlling the modes of the CD and the MD part — you can play a CD through its output and simultaneously write to MD from another source. For professionals and cool music lovers: in the third generation of the device, the implementation of balanced inputs-outputs (XLR) is possible only with installation through the back wall of a separate unit with them, of course, you will have to bang for it separately. Thanks to the professional purpose of the device, there is hope that it will work for a long time (pah-pah). For the year so far no jambs. Well, the design is an amateur.
