Villeroy & Boch (Germany-Italy-Austria)

detailed information

Features Villeroy & Boch (Germany-Italy-Austria)

Villeroy & Boch is a brand that has evolved gradually over a long period. It was formed as a result of the merger of two family enterprises specializing in the production of goods from ceramics, glass and porcelain: dishes, crystal products, wall and floor tiles, decorative majolica, terracotta, mosaics. These are Vilerois (year of creation - 1780) and Boch (registration date - 1748).

The history of each company is long and very eventful. In 1836, an agreement was concluded on the merger and registration of the Villeroy & Boch trademark. The head office is still located in Mettlach (Germany).

In 1899, Boch enters the European plumbing market with innovative sanitary ware and bathtubs for the time. At that time, the concern went a long way and opened 9 factories in Europe, successfully supplying its products (from the finest painted porcelain to gas furnaces and church utensils) to the UK, Belgium, France and other countries. Of course, both world wars dealt a serious blow to a group of enterprises, depriving not only production facilities, finances, but also the most important — a whole generation of unique specialists.

The company began to recover in 1947, focusing on the production of its basic products: dishes, sanitary ware and tiles. In 1951, a plant opened in Argentina, and in 1959 - in Canada. By 1970, it was possible to restore its trading network throughout Europe, as well as to enter the markets of Japan and the USA.

In the next 30 years, the concern gradually gained strength, developed and bought plants for the production of acrylic baths, showers, spa pools and other types of sanitary and ceramic products in the Netherlands, Romania, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Denmark. In 2008, the German furniture manufacturer Sanipa joined the holding.
