Disadvantages: pensive player. At the same time, this thoughtfulness is unpleasant: like a computer with a non-custom configuration: you clicked on the application, he thought, at first nothing seemed to happen, then a black screen, then the player downloaded the application's splash screen, then the forms were loaded, then the content).
The remote control is from soft-touch plastic on the back side, but it is made uncomfortable. It may be a matter of habit, but the keys are too high and the first time you always have to look at the console itself, since you cannot tactilely distinguish one from another.
The application on ios is good, but almost never finished.In general, you can use: there is a touch panel in fact as on laptops: left-right and open, and application icons.
The translation into Russian is rather poor and made by some enthusiast the night before the release. Somewhere menu items with a capital letter, somewhere with a small one.
The menu is beautiful, but it could be more beautiful: somewhere too small font.

Comment: This is a good player to play modern movies from home storage. From the services youtube is useful (there is authorization and viewing of videos found through the phone) - pairing the device, and that's all. If you choose between tv 3 and tv play - do not take play. It is significantly trimmed by codecs, which means that, together with a lower price, its main functionality will be compressed exactly twice.
It should be cheaper, but the dollar did its job).

I chose between asus and wd products, but stopped at wd. Asus products do not like what: it looks functional, but it’s better not to start setting up the devices of this company in the evening: there is a risk to go to bed well after midnight :)). Judging by network equipment: everything seems to be configured the same way, but it doesn’t work the first time, you’re setting it up the second time in the same way: miracles, it works!

UPD: if your wdtv has suddenly become an endless reboot, the weather widget on the main screen is to blame. Need to disable.

Problems when playing 9 movies out of 10 - constant plugging pictures and sound. And these problems do not depend on the file size. I tried to change both external drives and hdmi cable - the result is the same. Resetting to factory also did not help. It remains to wait for new firmware in the hope of correcting the situation.

After the release of the new firmware 1.02.17, my nerves are starting to recover)) With video playback, everything became MUCH better - there are practically no gaps, heavy mkv are played without problems. So I put this aggregate solid 4.

Advantages: 1. Reads everything.
2. Practically everything (I didn’t come across any exceptions) loses “over the air” from the file server (I use WD MyCloud)
3. Excellent workmanship and Russification.

Disadvantages: 1. Slightly more expensive than we would like.
2. Badly implemented rewind, but it is possible to go directly to the desired minute.
3. 500 rubles more expensive than WD TV Live, and of the differences - only that you can use another skin on the screen. The rest is the same.
4. It was not possible to make it play DLNA files right away - some additional indexing was required, moreover by the player itself (despite the fact that a normal DLNA server was already running on the file server, which had already been indexed).

Comment: Perfect device for daily use.

An important point: if you simply press the red button on the remote control, the device falls asleep, but very peculiarly: instead of 8 W (in the “on” mode) it consumes 6 W. At the same time, it is actively heated and continues to keep WiFi on.
But if you press the red button on the remote and hold it pressed for 5 seconds, the device falls asleep completely, does not heat up and does not consume extra energy.

Advantages: Made with high quality, WiFi catches well, supports all network balls: nfs, afp, smb. Plays all formats that fed (although not a zoo). Great remote as an Android / iOS application.And the main thing is that in sleep mode it does not turn off the WiFi module, i.e. can be turned on from the phone immediately.

Disadvantages: No support for 5Ghz WiFi and AC. A bit stupid.

Comment: I bought for a strictly defined purpose - to play movies, photos via WiFi with NFS or AFP balls. Because This DLNA crutch is not perceived as a class. Before that, there was an Android RK3088 whistle, as a whole, of course, the scroll provides more features, but WD works more stable.
Pulls a rip film of 6.7 GB (1.5 hours) via WiFi without gags. If it supported 5GHz AC, there would be no price.
By the way, advice, if you want all the files to play in the folder (say, the season of the series), you need not to click on the remote (then there will be only 1 file played), but the play button.
