Aluminum is a fairly common metal in the earth's crust, which allows products from it to have a low cost with a high - "cosmic" quality. In addition, it is easy to process with the use of melting and molding.
What other advantages do aluminum radiators have, and how do they surpass cast iron, steel and bimetallic? We list all the undeniable advantages of heating equipment made of aluminum:
- low weight
- ease of installation,
- high degree of heat transfer,
- economy,
- affordable prices
Let us dwell on some of these points. When it comes to low weight, this means that one section of the highest-quality cast radiator should weigh a little more than one kilogram. A standard set of 10 sections together with connecting elements will weigh about 11 kg. Batteries made by extrusion will prove even easier.

Radiators are easy to install on site with special mounting kits. In more detail about it it is told in the last part of the article devoted to installation and connection of the equipment. The simplicity of caring for aluminum radiators lies in the fact that the heat-resistant coating of sections and fittings is not only modern and aesthetically pleasing, but is also not inclined over the years to deteriorate its appearance. It does not accumulate dust, it is not difficult to clean and wash.
A high level of heat transfer and economy are inseparable from each other. Especially well this connection is noticeable in private cottages. A relatively small amount of water circulates inside the aluminum radiator, and even if there is not the most powerful heating boiler, the comfort in the rooms is easily achieved thanks to the heat transfer. In addition, aluminum radiators have low thermal inertia. This means that the temperature in the rooms is very easy to change with the help of thermostats.
Choosing heating equipment in the apartment, do not forget that pure aluminum in its thermal conductivity is inferior only to silver and copper. The alloys based on aluminum, of which radiators are made, have the same useful property. And due to the so-called "fins" - a set of thin ribs inside the sections, the effective area of heat removal is further increased.
The oxide film protects the internal surface of the equipment from corrosion. To improve its anti-corrosion properties, a coating made of polymer resins is additionally used. This allows the use of aluminum radiators in contact with the coolant, the pH of which is in the range of 5-10 pH units. The smooth surface of the parts after processing has a low hydrodynamic resistance, so that the polluted coolant does not cause damage to it.
The disadvantages of aluminum heating radiators, in comparison with bimetal, usually include:
- fragility
- quick wear,
- sensitivity to the quality of the coolant.
Most often, the flaws are caused by the manufacturer’s bad faith. Little-known Chinese models are made of "secondary" aluminum alloys. This product is not obtained from ore raw materials, but from industrial waste, aluminum scrap and its alloy. Such equipment quickly comes into disrepair even in those cases when no violations during installation and operation were allowed.
All European brands are thoroughly tested. Many of them are specially adapted to sudden pressure drops and low quality of the coolant, found in the networks of Russian central heating. Thus, when choosing a radiator from aluminum to an apartment, you should stop on cast models from well-known manufacturers.
