15 small bathroom design ideas

Planning a bathroom renovation? Photos of interesting interiors of small bathrooms - and some useful tips.

What room do you use every day, despite its small size? Right, the bathroom. Here we wash, wash and even wash.
That is why the design of a bathroom usually differs only in its full practicality, and certainly not in originality and individuality. And the reason for this is a very small area, allocated by designers and builders for water procedures. Therefore, the majority of apartment owners do not even think about whether it is possible to “add” space, comfort and harmony to a small bathroom?
But to turn this room into a real masterpiece of design is quite simple.

Walls

Everyone knows that light shades visually “move apart” the space (including those who have nothing to do with interior design). But if you are in a small bathroom lay the walls of pure white tile, the result will not please you (unless you are a fan of hospital treatment rooms).
Therefore, designers recommend the space not just to be lightened, but to be separated by colored horizontal, vertical or oblique stripes. In this case, the tile of darker shades can be placed in one of the following ways:

  • only along the bottom of the bathroom, separating it from lighter tones by narrow tiles — tiles, the second row of which is better placed one or two tiles below the ceiling;
  • on the bottom and top of the walls (this design option is most suitable for small bathrooms with high ceilings);
  • on one of the four walls (or in one of the corners, for example, where the shower cabin is installed), “supporting” it with vertical stripes on the other three;
  • in the form of vertical go inclined strips that match the color of the bathroom floor;
  • aligning the darker vertical stripes on one wall (for example, near the bath) with the horizontal stripes of the same color on the other (near the mirror).

But the shades used in the bathroom for ceramic tiles with which the walls are lined, the designers almost never limit:

  • Blue color (from blue to purple). It is a shade of the sky and the sea, associated with tranquility and pacification and tranquility, therefore it is more suitable for rooms with bathrooms rather than shower cabins.
  • Green color. All its shades are connected in our subconscious with beauty and youth, so they are very often used in the design of small bathrooms, in which you want to give a small room overloaded with sanitary engineering a more cheerful design. In addition, the green color has a unique double face: next to the blue color it looks "cold", and along with yellow it looks "warm".
  • Orange color is synonymous with warmth and comfort. The most popular color is sand, but in small bathrooms it is better to use brighter and cleaner shades, “diluting” it with a white ceiling and stripes of the same color on the walls.
  • Red color gives the bathroom a variety of emotions, depending on its color: a delicate pink color will add femininity to the bathroom, and dark maroon colors will add masculinity and strength.

Ceiling

The most popular ceiling color is white (it can be both opaque and glossy). However, designers often use the shades of the colors used in the selection of ceramic tiles for wall cladding for the ceiling. In this case, the shade of the ceiling should be very light, airy and gentle, otherwise there may be a feeling of "pressure".

Floor

The color of the floor is recommended to choose according to the darkest shade of the wall.Since in a small bathroom the open area of the floor is usually insignificant, it is not the best option to use multi-colored tiles or lay it in a checkerboard pattern (this will only give the room an extra load).

The color of the grouting between the tiles can be either matching the shade of filling the seams on the walls, or corresponding to the color of the tile itself. Here we should focus not only on the aesthetic perception of the result, but on practicality. In addition, it is customary in the bathroom to lay mats that almost completely cover the free part of the floor.

To save space, a washing machine (front-loading) can be partially pushed under the sink, slightly raising it relative to the usual height. If you use the built-in version of the machine with a shallow depth, then it generally can be installed under the sink, hiding in the bedside table.

If there are always a lot of bubbles and flacons in your bathroom, you should attend to the acquisition of spacious cupboards (under the sink, near the mirror, above the washing machine, and also installed independently in the corner of the room).

And do not forget to use the space directly under the bathroom, turning it into an original home-made locker, for example, for household chemicals.

Upgrading your bathroom is worth starting with the purchase of plumbing. More precisely, with the choice of its primary color. The easiest option is white. It allows you to "play" with a variety of shades, enhancing and complementing them on the walls and ceiling, without limiting the color range.
Another thing - colorful plumbing. It is recommended to purchase it only after creating a complete design project for a small bathroom. Otherwise, you yourself "put the frame" in the choice of shades of material for walls and ceilings.

Heated towel rail and washing machine must be purchased in advance, choosing the most compact of them. If there is a window in the bathroom, the heated towel rail can be replaced with a regular battery.

And do not forget to look at options such as:

  • installation of a shower cabin with a corner tray, rather than a bulky long bath;
  • the acquisition of a corner washbasin;
  • changing the location of the bath (not along, but across the bathroom), which would entail the acquisition of a small bath, but it will add free space in the room;
  • Replacing a regular mirror (you just can't do without it in the bathroom) with a hinged mirror box.

For children's water toys, it is better to purchase a special mesh bag, suspended from a hook above the bath.
