However, a wide choice of various autojacks on the market is capable of driving novice motorists into a stupor, especially their female part. So which jack to choose?
Types of jacks
The simplest and most familiar type of jack is the screw type, in which the rotation of the screw in one direction or another increases the angle of the "paw" (on lever-screw models) or shifts carrier profiles (on rhombic jacks). These motorhomes are the cheapest, and they are equipped with cars from the factory. Immediately, we note that in the rating we will not consider lever-screw jacks, and we highly recommend against purchasing them - they are unstable and without proper insurance are simply dangerous for the car owner.
In this regard, rhombic jacks are much safer - the load on the supporting platform is directed strictly along the center of the contact patch with the ground, as a result of which the car can stand on such a jack securely. However, the other disadvantages of screw jacks are preserved - slow motion, rapid wear of the “screw-nut” pair, limited carrying capacity. A rhombic jack will be the best choice for a car owner with a weight of up to 1.5 tons, who needs a jack solely as an emergency option for replacing the reserve.
Another type of mechanical jack is lathhe hijack. Payload and a huge (by the standards of other jacks) move made them an essential attribute of cars prepared for off-road - in any other case, the large-sized and heavy mechanism has no practical sense.
If you prefer to maintain your own car, then the hydraulic ram will be the best choice. Firstly, the declared carrying capacity is only 1.5 tons, which hints at either lower-quality materials or the manufacturer’s desire to be safe. Secondly, the diamond stroke is reduced: if with a height of 95 mm in the folded state, the Airline can rise to 400 mm, then the 100-millimeter Autoprofi - only to 390. It would seem that a trifle - but these millimeters are often not enough to tear off wheel or get under the threshold of a flat tire. In the convenience of storage this jack also lost: the manufacturer refused to add a bag to the delivery set. Jack selection
As you can understand, of all the geometrical parameters of the jack when choosing the most important are two: pickup height and maximum lift height. The first value should be not less than 30 mm less than the height of the car's jack jacks (otherwise, having lowered the wheel, you simply cannot substitute the jack under the car), the second is to exceed the same height not less than 100 mm to confidently lift the wheels off the ground when full lift.
Chasing the stock of carrying capacity is not worth it if the jack lives 99% of the time in the trunk: it will last for many years with such operation, and the more powerful will simply be more expensive and heavier.
