Unfortunately, many people forget that these are animals that differ from us in structure and metabolism, despite the omnivorous. A large amount of fats, sugar, salt and artificial additives that a person consumes every day is deadly to the health of rats. Their diet should consist of a special fortified grain feed containing the optimal amount of nutrients, as well as bait: vegetables and fruits (no more than 40 g), animal protein in various forms (no more than 30 g), no more than once a week - fermented milk products (no more than 1 tablespoon per animal).

What is the best rat food?
Premium complete feeds will be the best solution for rats. In many mixtures there are no additives of animal origin, but this does not mean low quality. Such mixtures have a generally balanced composition, so that they are suitable for feeding allergic rats, elderly animals, for combination with protein feed or other food.
Dry food should always be kept in a rat bowl. If the animal is prone to excessive weight gain, then it is better to give it dosed, according to the feeding rate specified by the manufacturer (about 1 tablespoon of the mixture per day). Young, pregnant and lactating rats should increase the portion.
In addition to the well-being of the animal, an important indicator of a properly chosen feed mixture is palatability. If the rodent chooses only half the pieces and leaves half in the bowl, then it is worth looking out for something more suitable.
