They took his son on the day of jam. I wanted two in one: analog of the classic console, for playing on the couch in front of the big screen, and anti-stress for long-distance trips by family in a car when the kindergarten in the back seat, ozverev from idleness, takes out the brain to parents ... As a result, 100% hit: gadget almost perfect for the second scenario, and quite good for the first.
Our first console (the old ZX Spectrum doesn’t count;)), so I’m comparing it mostly with a PC, and also with occasional post-rides on PS3 from classmates of the birthday boy.
Pros:
+ gamepad - ergonomics on a solid 5, lies in the hands, like a glove;
+ screen - IPS, bright, clear, subjectively comparable to those in good smartphones (such as the latest Samsung);
+ surprisingly not bad for a gadget of such dimensions onboard sound;
+ 6 hours of battery play;
+ Tegra 4 - did not wonder how it is comparable to the filling of large consoles, but 3D-shooters (for example, N.O.V.A. 3) in 720p draws with a bang;
+ Android. The salt is not in the OS itself, but in the fact that the average price tag for toys is an order of magnitude lower than for the same PS3 / 4.
Minuses:
- There are very few games adapted for management from a gamepad on the Google Market. There are about a hundred of them, but, as usual, only a small part is interesting. Part of the situation is saved by the old classic with a PC, ported for Android: Max Payne, Half-Life 2, Little Big Adventure, the trilogy of Prince of Persia, etc.
Emulators of old consoles and streaming from a PC have not yet tried, but their very presence is pleasant.

- the display is only 5 inches, this is not enough by modern standards (7 inches would be perfect)
- compared to the Nvidia Shield Tablet does not support the Nintedo Gamecube emulator (Tegra 4 does not pull, unfortunately)

I took this model exclusively in order to play emulators of old consoles, therefore I chose based on the quality and speed of emulation. Before that, I looked in the direction of Exeq Aim Pro, but he did not cope with the PS1 emulation via the OpenGL plugin. At first, Nvidia Shield Portable did not pull it either, and even with a more fine-tuning, it gave out a maximum of 45-47 frames out of 50 possible. Good, but not perfect. It turned out to be in the firmware (it was 4.2.2). After updating to a new (4.4.2) situation, the situation has changed completely - everything began to work perfectly even at maximum settings (tested on the purchased FPse emulator).
As for convenience, when you hold the shield in your hands, you feel as if you have a high-quality gamepad from PS or Nintendo 64 in front of you. All the buttons are in place, your fingers go where you want. Upper hooks would have made even softer and it would be very different.
Streaming, honestly, did not use it and do not plan it yet. So far, I and emulators is enough for happiness.
If you are looking for a good portable console for games in console emulators (and not only), then the shield is the best option! I say this to you as a gamer with 22 years of experience.

First played and put on the shelf. Stream games from the computer without any lags (although at this time the computer duplicates everything on the monitor). GRID also transfers games acceptable, even with a regular router. Well, after I put PPSSPP from Google Play - the PSP emulator - shielde became my main time-killer, I’ve been killing Orge Tactics for a week already :)
