Opinions about the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II Kit

Evaluation 5
Advantages: 1. Compact size;
1.1. Even more compact size with pancake zoom;
2. Convenient operation + touch screen;
3. Maximum customization (you can customize all the wheels and buttons in a very wide range with minor restrictions);
4. Display tilting in the same plane (conveniently removed from both low and high angles);
5. Fast autofocus (despite the fact that it is a contrast);
6. Relatively large and very clear electronic viewfinder;
7. Wi-Fi (it is very pleasant to send a photo to your phone or tablet immediately, edit it if necessary, and send it by mail or through social networks.
Disadvantages: 1. Very cumbersome and not always intuitive menu;
2. The complete pancake zoom is not only electrically driven, so the zoom drive is electric rather than mechanical, which is not very convenient from the point of view of fine-tuning the required focal length, and also probably affects the battery life.
3. Battery. Enough for a short time (I am writing off to the electrosum, see p. 2). Native batteries are expensive, but there are alternatives;
4. The impossibility of simultaneously displaying both a histogram and a level (the level itself is also not very convenient and informative). Not a fundamental flaw, but not unrecoverable (in Fuji, by the way, this is better done);
five.The lack of built-in GPS (I'm very used to the geodata in the pictures on the phone). Yes, there is a crutch in the form of the ability to synchronize GPS data with the phone, but this is, firstly, not convenient, and secondly, it discharges the phone’s battery, if not immediately, then very quickly.
Comment: Very good camera, of course, not without flaws, but that now there are no flaws. I chose between this camera and the Fujifilm X-T10, and before that I used the Canon 500D.
First, if I choose between a mirror and mirrorless camera, then my unequivocal choice is in favor of mirrorless, especially in the absence of not even experience, but the skills of setting up the camera, since on the mirrorless camera all the corrections made to the exposure are immediately visible on the screen or viewfinder, as a result, I began to shoot more in manual mode and get more high-quality images. Also a very significant advantage of mirrorless cameras are more compact, compared to SLR, sizes.
Secondly, the choice between the Olympus OM-D E-M10 m2 and Fujifilm X-T10 was difficult and painful, but it stopped on the first camera (1) due to its more compact size (on paper the difference is insignificant, but in the hands of Olympus it is more compact ), (2) because of a cheaper system (the choice of Fuji lenses is not very large and their prices bite), the lenses for which are produced by a fairly large number of manufacturers (Olympus, Panasonic, Sigma, etc.).
Total, great compact camera, which is always with me and always ready to shoot. In addition to pancake zoom, I strongly advise you to buy a cover on an Olympus LC-37 lens with shutters that open when the camera is turned on, which will make it possible not to lose the complete cover (it is very small and not very convenient) and always be ready to shoot an interesting frame.

Evaluation 5
Advantages: Compact, functional - in terms of fullness of technology, it certainly surpasses most DSLRs, like many modern system cameras.
Advanced stabilization system (relative to other similar class).
Large fleet of optics under 4/3.
Touch screen as a convenient addition - it is convenient to focus and take photos with it.
Stylish design - especially in a silver case. The aesthetic side is also important)
Wi-fi - it is clear that there is already almost everything, but, well, that there is here!)
Disadvantages: Weak battery (just need to buy a second)
Not very comfortable grip (in part, you can decide to buy an extra pen - but .. again - by buying)
No GPS - for the travel camera there is an unhelpful function - in my Canon 6d there is - there is not. It's a shame.
The menu is complicated and confusing, but if you learn (who needs it of course) - the camera can be customized just fine!
Comment: The overall impression of the device is pleasant! In the end, this is not a professional device (although there are some functions that are simply not available to the "big" brothers). Separately, I wanted to say about the stabilization system - yes, it is certainly beautiful, but due to the not very comfortable grip, ease of construction and other features of a small device - it can be inferior to large cameras. Tested in comparison with Canon SLR and not the most modern stabilized lens Sigma - Olik loses. Of course, 1/20 - 1/10 didn't interest me - I was shooting at 1 sec. 50 mm (Olympus has an equivalent of 25), and no matter how I hold it - the image is blurred. Sigma 24-105 gave a good picture. This is in fact and not in the minus of this camera - this is to the fact that full-size devices for this parameter and with a lack of lighting are still a better option, not to mention the increase in iso with the least loss. Although the presence of this stabilizer on the matrix itself is very cool!
But in general, I bought it consciously, like an everyday camera and a camera for travel, I bought Canon 7d instead (second camera) by the way - I was tired of carrying such a weight with me, and the photo version "always with me" on the phone as a photographer does not always suit me))

Advantages: 1. Image stabilizer.It really works, and allows you to increase the shutter speed even to 1/20 with almost no blurring - the best or worst result depends only on your own hands.
2. Excellent color reproduction, branded by Olympus - so natural that in two years already begins to bother a little with its naturalness :)
3. Silent shooting mode is a real find for indoor reportage and street photography. The electronic shutter speed can increase up to 1/16000.
4. Two control wheels, customizable buttons, comfortable (despite the size) grip - excellent ergonomics.
5. Very decent for classmates speed and autofocus, which has a nice accuracy
6. Design - the device is very beautiful, except for jokes. They can just admire.
Disadvantages: 1. The only truly serious drawback of this device is the indecently small battery capacity. However, this is easily corrected by buying a second battery.
2. Tracking autofocus works, of course, but frankly weak. If you need it, you just need another device.
3. Weak video - the device is not suitable for serious video work.
Comment: Olympus taken to hate. They were scolded when they made excellent SLRs with the same excellent color rendition. They are vilified on what the world is now, when they make excellent cameras with excellent stabilizers and a pleasant picture. Yes, the MFT is currently limited to 20 megapixel resolution, but please tell me why you need more? What do you do with your photos? Print them all over the wall? Then of course, if you please find yourself 40+ Mp. Which is typical, for some reason, almost no one scolds Panasonic, although they use the same, as one passenger put it, “cesspool” sensors. So, these "garbage" sensors do an excellent job with their task. For an amateur, for a street photographer, for a person who takes photos and does not count pixels, this device is already enough. Compared even to relatively recent DSLRs, it’s just crammed with features that you never dreamed of before - electronic shutter, almost completely silent shooting, focus-bracketing ... If you want more, see older models, see Panasonic, which also has a post -focus, as in the excellent G80.
The second ten - a great machine for a good lover. The professional himself will select the most suitable tool for his tasks, and will not scold the screwdriver for being uncomfortable with hammering nails.

Advantages: Bought complete with a 14-42mm EZ lens. I am writing a review mainly from the point of view of the usability of the device, since I am not very well versed in the “artistic” plan.

Autofocus is good. And where it misses, you can poke your finger across the screen and the focus will look there. Super comfortable.
A bunch of settings, any twist or button can be customized. Just scary this bunch of settings, a long look where that ...
The appearance of the silver case - finally can twist))

In general, I have not a great photo-experience. I bought not for professional purposes, but for family use. Before that, there were all sorts of soap dishes: compacts, large and ordinary, and ultrazoom. Mirror did not buy because of the size. Well, everyone knows how "comfortable" on vacation with a big carcass to rush through the heat. For a long time I looked at the new trend - mirrorless. But the first models of all manufacturers were, apparently, with a deliberately curtailed functionality in relation to the big brothers. And finally, full-fledged, but not large, cameras began to appear - and this is great.
Did not like the photos in AUTO mode. Naturally, the first few days, in order to somehow get used to the new device, walked with the AUTO mode and only got upset. Gradually, mastering new modes, the results obtained pleased more and more, but the sediments ... No, the pictures are not bad. Ordinary. It's just that my first camera after a heap of soapboxes, and the photos were no better or worse than a soapbox.
Disadvantages: no convenient rings on the lens, the electron zoom ring is tight, spring-loaded, rotates by +/- 30 degrees, the zoom itself is not very fast;
the focus ring is also electronic, but it turns more easily, turns on a full circle, while it responds more to the speed of rotation, i.e. if you twist quickly, then the focus for a quarter of a turn will go from edge to edge, and if slowly, then half a turn will be barely smeared. Not very intuitive.
Other lenses have not yet bought, but the staff is not convenient because of the size. But here either convenience, or the size, probably.
If in the switched on state (accidentally) to press the button for removing the lens, the camera will “go to sleep”, there will be a black screen. After releasing the button, the lens "reboots", closes and reopens, respectively, everything that you have adjusted (zoom, focus) is reset. This button comes to hand often enough, if not successfully grab the zoom ring.
The battery is weak. And if suddenly (horror of horrors) you decide to use the built-in flash, then you should not go far from the charger. And in general, the built-in flash only spoils everything. Or I have not made friends with her yet.
You can't turn it on just in the photo viewing mode ... you have to turn on the camera, go into the viewing mode, while all the photo functions remain working, the stabilizer is noisy, it all continues to waste a tiny battery ... But yes, just a little - you can immediately take pictures.
The price seems too high to me.

Comment (start):
The screen is touch-sensitive, but it was possible to fasten a multitouch to enlarge photos with a pinch. And then you can flip through svaypom - this is familiar, although here it is not very convenient, but there is no usual increase.
And indeed, the touch control here as once was urgently “screwed” a week before the device was released. Poking on the screen for focusing is very convenient. And some items can only be configured with buttons, some only on the screen, I did not think of how to exit the touch menu without pressing a single button ... it is not user friendly.
Comment: A bunch of all kinds of "unclear_who_necessary" modes, like drawing with a pencil, paints, etc. Do you know these people who use it? It would be better carried out on the ring modes Portrait, Landscape and Vse_Estalnoe, for example, as in Canon.
WiFi is rather useless, because he can only distribute his network, and not connect to an existing one. I have a 4,000-year-old photo camera samsung, so he can connect to any network, post pictures on the social network, send via email, on a TV screen, etc. And here FIG. And through the application on the phone, the pictures are exchanged in a strongly truncated quality.
GPS ... well, seriously, do they think that it was necessary to do it?! .. The GPS receiver chip costs 2.5 bucks, at the price of the whole foto is a penny, why do you have to do this perversion through the phone application? Well, I will say it again (marketers, aly !!) about the KOPEECHNYY battery charging chip, which could be pushed right into the camera. And this decision would cost MUCH CHEAPER than such external (miserable, * mate *, not comfortable) charging.
The viewfinder has a proximity sensor, it works like this: you bring an eye to the viewfinder - the screen is chopped off. Conveniently. But only this sensor is very sensitive. You want to poke your finger at the top of the screen to set the focus point, you move your hand at the viewfinder - everything, the screen has turned off. In the mode of viewing photos, too, if you accidentally bring your hand to the viewfinder - fotik immediately goes into photography mode. I now know about such a shoal, but when you give someone pictures to look through, they may accidentally “touch” this sensor and exit view mode.
Yes, I am very logical ... I fool around here fotik, but put him 5 points. (actually 4+) Because in general I really like this camera, not perfect, sometimes not logical to control; Somewhere, everywhere, instant marketing won out over the mind (no GPS, for a bunch of "useful" art-functions, additional applications for the phone). But otherwise it is good, so “cozy and homely”, in short, you should like it.))

Advantages: Build quality. It lies well in a small female hand. Weight.Electronic viewfinder. The quality of the pictures.
Disadvantages: Small font OSD.
Comment: Before the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II Kit, it owned the Canon Power Shot SX150 IS. Old comrade for filming in good weather from the series "and I was there." I really wanted a bigger matrix. Price also played a role. Long chose between Sony Alpha ILCE-6000 Kit, Fujifilm X-T10 Kit and Olympus OM-D E-M10 Kit. Bought Olympus. After Canon, I like everything about him: technical specifications, image and video quality, appearance. I haven't felt any particular flaws yet. For me, the font on the menu screen is small. Got to wear glasses. But there is an electronic viewfinder, which is very helpful. The buttons are smaller than those of Canon. The hand must be used. The main thing when shooting do not forget to remove the lens cap. At the first big walk the battery worked for 3 hours of almost continuous shooting. From design delighted. I bought a silver with a silver lens. I am thinking about buying an Olympus 25mm f / 1.8 lens. I recommend to all amateur photographers who want to replace their digital camera with something more serious.

Advantages: Many lenses, not expensive professional optics ($ 250 for a prof. 45/1. 8, bought immediately).
There is a choice of used. lenses and akb, I bought a new 40-150 for the penny and the original akb on avito.
Very fast and percent and focus.
Weifai of course it's mega-convenient! Remote viewfinder, remote control, instant clamping (if necessary) and transfer to the mobile of photos to send on an Internet.
Electronic shutter up to 1/16000 with high-aperture optics! Finally. Plus the silent mode is a godsend for a spy :)
Very nice and ekanchik and viewfinder on the picture.
Disadvantages: There is no penny GPS, but it can pick up geotags from a mobile phone, provided that Olympus software on the phone is active and writes a track.
Maybe the problem of all system, xs, often focuses not on the nearest object, but where it is necessary. Constantly have to specify the focus area. Mirror Canon almost always focused on the near. the object. Partly solved by autosearch and focus on them. But he does not see faces from afar.
Antediluvian charging, large, not USB, it is not convenient to carry / carry with yourself, do not charge the acb camera.
Comment: 2 months past M10, successfully sold for what I bought and took Mark 2.
Mark 2 is beautiful, as if made even more expensive, plastic is softer, metal, pens, feeling. Nice!
The reason was to try to shoot a video, 50fps in this is necessary.
There was also a shortage of 1/4000 on the street with high-aperture optics. And with the plans to buy another 1-2 high-aperture fixation of the desire to look for / buy / carry / fasten / unscrew gray filters, and then there was no “enjoy” dirty colors.
The feel of the stub works even better, although it was cool, but from the hands of 1s on the first m10 it was almost impossible to hold - this is not the first time, but you can take a sharp picture.
I almost never use the viewfinder, but the picture is cool.
Given the trend to improve mobile photo, this class of photos ($ 500-1000) is primarily interesting with fixes, or with zoom. For example, Samsung s7 fotka at the level of this fotik, something worse, but how much more convenient to carry one universal device!

Advantages: Appearance, ergonomics, workmanship (materials). The functionality and quality of the camera shots is impressive at a fairly humane price (bought by the stock). Recently I received the main prize for the best amateur camera of 2016. I think for good reason.
Disadvantages: I would like to charge, like Sony, from USB
Comment: The third month has gone, as I am the owner of this camera. Impressions are only positive. The whale buzzer draws quite a decent picture, and the dimensions are minimal. To realize the full potential do not be stingy to buy decent optics. I first bought a fixed Olik 25 / 1.8, in the plans of 75-ka. Video shoots chic, photos - depends on the optics and hands. For a novice photographer, the auto mode will be "wand - magic" (quality is excellent + a bunch of art modes) until you study the 170 pages of the manual).Who is looking for an alternative to very heavy SLRs, then you have already found it.

Advantages: Light and compact
Built-in viewfinder (saves in the sun)
Quite a large selection of interchangeable lenses
Silent shutter function (does not click when you press the shutter button)
Good video
The quality of materials and good assembly.
Disadvantages: Unusual menu.
Comment: The camera works quite fast. As the switch on the menu and the autofocus itself. I really liked the image stabilization, as I explained, this is achieved by displacing the matrix in the camera itself. The quality of the photos is more than satisfactory, especially if you use non whale lenses. In general, I found the best option for myself.

Advantages: Beautiful photos in automatic mode
Interesting design
Disadvantages: Not.
Comment: The camera is really compact, with a 14-42 EZ lens placed in a jacket pocket. Auto mode helps the novice photographer to take great pictures. The camera has various art modes and filters, for the unknowing photo editor user is a godsend.

Advantages: Speed. Stabilizer. The size. Weight. Convenience management. Screen and viewfinder. Electronic shutter.
Disadvantages: Quality jpg, cost and choice of optics.
Comment: I bought it as a camera for shooting a family and for video. I, spoiled by professional cameras, did not like the quality in jpg. Loose picture, unnecessary sharpe. I take off only in Rav and here the camera gives excellent pictures. The quality of the large ISO can be compared with the budget SLRs. Compared with Nikon d3s, at 1600, the Olympus has a quality like Nikon at 6400. The stabilizer is very cool. From hands on 35mm I shot without problems on 1/10, almost all shots are sharp from the first take. Low-cost optics are also good, the whale lens is quite sharp and fast, it only opens when the camera is turned on for a long time. The camera can be put in a jacket pocket and it is almost not noticeable there. I liked the live-composit mode very much, and in general the opportunity to see how the picture appears on the manual shutter is direct during the shooting. I want to buy a super-wide 9-18, but will get enough tangible money. Although professional lenses are 20 percent cheaper than analogs from Nikon and Canon. On the other hand, Nikon has 35/2 for 15 thousand, but 17 / 1.7 for the Olympus is more expensive. In general, compromises. Yes, and the super-widths from other manufacturers is still small and all of them are already quite expensive. When I buy a park of professional optics, then it will be possible to walk around with some Olympus to some reportage shots.
