12 best compact digital cameras for non-standard lovers
For the mass amateur photographer, the compactness of a digital camera is an important quality. If it is enough just to “fotkat” everything, to make a choice is quite simple. It is necessary to decide on a budget and take a digital camera that you just like. For the average user, cameras of different brands are technically slightly different. Excellent models are offered as manufacturers specializing in optical products:
- Canon,
- Fujifilm
- Nikon
- Olympus,
- Pentax;
so grants of electronics:
- Panasonic
- Samsung
- Sony
Some in the past, popular in the photo market brands lose their positions. Therefore, it is hardly worth buying Kodak, Polaroid or Praktica devices now. Casio miniature cameras are also no longer relevant. It is difficult to call digital cameras non-core for General Electric or Hewlett Packard a good choice. Cheap (up to 4,000 rubles) cameras from Rekam and other manufacturers do not offer advantages over the integrated camera of a mobile phone.
Amateur photographers whose requests are knocked out of the main mass, have to think. Those who are looking for compactness, but do not want to limit themselves to the capabilities of a single lens, will benefit from digital cameras with interchangeable optics. Like shooting from long distances? Look for a compact digital camera with a large range of focal lengths of the lens. Tourist, hunter, and just a haunter of beaches suitable all-weather digital camera for active tourism. And finally, today we will choose a suitable slim camera for the handbag.

The best compact digital cameras with interchangeable optics
Do not forget that Olympus is famous for its optics (one of the world leaders in the manufacture of microscopes and endoscopes) and weather-proof cameras. The company developed the best developments in its new model of compact digital cameras, abandoning the production of SLR cameras.
Although Olympus is very similar in appearance to the good old Zenith, its filling is quite modern and not at all mirror - the electronic viewfinder, there is no mirror system at all. The matrix is small in megapixels (16.1 million effective), but has a fairly decent size (crop factor 2), so it gives a digestible picture even with a whale lens mounted on Micro 4/3 bayonet. Of the advantages of the camera, we note the presence of optical and software image stabilization, a rotary display for shooting from uncomfortable positions. Fast autofocus is convenient for shooting “offhand”, and the forced autofocus mechanism is as simple as a bicycle — you just need to poke your finger at the right place on the touchscreen. The main drawback of the model is the small battery, which is small to the limits of indecency: if you plan to spend a lot of time with the camera, do not forget about a spare battery on the road. A good street shooting machine is easier to wear than a DSLR camera (even a compact one), a lot of optics for this mount. |

The price and capabilities of the ILCE-6300 are close to the “SLRs”, and the other stuffing is close here - for example, the APS-C format matrix with a crop factor of 1.5 is already familiar to us from Sony's SLR cameras. Buying ILCE-6300, the amateur photographer gets, in addition to a large matrix, a semi-professional camera, which is noticeably smaller and one and a half times lighter than a similar SLR. Due to this win, the camera may be of interest to many fans of fast shooting on the go, especially as the speed of serial shooting at 11 frames per second is greater than that of many DSLRs for the same money.
A definite plus in karma is for the number of autofocus points: there are already 169 of them here, so the autofocus speed in all modes will leave few people indifferent. If you add the ability to video in 4K resolution ... maybe, well, they, these "SLRs"? Main advantages:

Even with a 14-45mm whale lens, this camera is very compact, and installing optics like the Canon EF-M 22mm f / 2 STM is capable of turning it into a real “soap box” in thickness. And at the same time, she retained the possibility of installing through an adapter and “adult” lenses with a Canon EF / EF-S bayonet, although, of course, it looks quite comical with them. The new APS-C 24.2-megapixel sensor, which was installed in the M100, is equipped with the already well-known “Canon” Dual Pixel technology, so this amateur mirrorless can really surprise with the autofocus speed - here it is already a hybrid, not a “soap” contrast . The camera has a burst rate of 6.1 fps, which makes it easy to “catch” the desired frame in conditions where the time for framing and frame composition is limited. Well, and the display which is leaning forward is traditionally designed for selfies. The control is mainly carried out through its sensor, which makes it easier to get used after the smartphone, and the focus by indicating the point by touching the finger is absolutely familiar to them. As befits an amateur camera, the M100 offers many auto modes, and even independently activates the HDR mode in any of them. True, for some reason the camera cannot independently open and activate the flash in any of them, which the “Canon” SLRs of the amateur level have learned a long time ago. But the classic M / Av / Tv is also preserved, so you can “work with your hands” without trusting the “intelligence” of the camera. And then it will be easy and get used to the SLR camera of the same company - the menu structure is identical, although, of course, there are more options for setting up DSLR cameras. The quality of the image detail of the camera is good, the working ISO values are up to 1600. It can be used to print A4 photos, since Wi-Fi allows you to transfer them directly to the printer. A good compact camera with a sensor, if not at the level of DSLRs at the same price for a carcass, is close to it. Plus and replaceable optics. |

Despite the look of a typical “digital camera”, the Nikon 1 J5 has a full-fledged bayonet for interchangeable optics, and even boasts the ability to shoot 4K video. At one time, Soviet photographers often had, in addition to a full-fledged “SLR”, also a small “LOMO” or “Smena” to be able to take a picture so quickly that the subject did not have time to notice the photographer - in the 21st century, this role clearly pretends Nikon compact camera. Everything is clearly calculated under the shooting speed - and the fastest 171-point autofocus, and the ability to move from continuous shooting at a speed of 20 frames per second to 60 (!) Frames per second when the focus is locked in the first frame. The curious attachment of the movable display on the two guides is convenient when shooting from a belt. The screen itself is small, but working with the menu is quite comfortable. A fun detail - the screen can be turned to the side of the lens, while the camera automatically enters the self-mode in the spirit of the times. For compact dimensions, alas, I had to pay with a matrix: shooting at a sensitivity of more than 800 makes little sense, the noise level grows noticeably. The flash is also “purely symbolic” - of course, it's nice to walk with this baby in the afternoon ... but in the evening it is better to take another camera. Main advantages:

The best compact cameras with ultrazoom

When creating this compact camera, boasting the title of EISA Superzoom Camera 2018-2019, Sony clearly decided to collect "full stuffing", which, alas, affected the price: here you can already think about a full frame with interchangeable optics ... But, of course, someone then compactness and versatility are needed, and here a camera with a range of equivalent focal lengths of 24-600 mm in the Zeiss lens has its advantages. True, if you know what a diaphragm is and why use it, the 2.4-4 relative aperture range indicated on the lens will be frustrating. In fact, the exposure here is regulated only by exposure, which is why the minimum possible is as much as 1/32000 of a second (!). But the inch 20-megapixel matrix with reverse illumination is undoubtedly good. The presence of 315 points of phase focusing on it allows the camera to be guided to the desired object extremely quickly, and in combination with the possibility of continuous shooting in RAW at 24 frames per second, this already promises excellent shooting opportunities for fast-moving objects, even in sports, at least for a photo hunt. Add to this that the MDF at the maximum focal length is only 72 mm, which gives great opportunities for macro photography. In addition, the optical stabilizer works fine, allowing you to get rid of the "shag" on relatively long exposures. If we consider that the ISO range of the matrix is small, and values above 800 already lead to a noticeable increase in noise, shutter speeds will often have to be increased. However, it was not without drawbacks - the lens, as, alas, is inevitable for superzoom, suffers from tangible chromatic aberrations on an open diaphragm ... and there is practically no place to close it. Of course, with the development of RAW, this can be partially compensated, but still they spoil the impression of the camera. Main advantages:

With a maximum of 42 krat optical zoom, this compact camera is one of the best in its segment: few can offer more, but, for example, the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS with 65x zoom has too high matrix and aberration noises at long focal lengths to recommend it for purchase. With such focusing capabilities, convenience of grip and stabilization efficiency are especially important, and the engineers managed to do it by five when creating the SX420 IS - the camera is really convenient to use with maximum zoom, and the matrix provides good image quality at dusk.
If the camera had a greater shooting speed and more accurate color reproduction in video mode, we would even forgive him for the lack of a USB connector, which for gadgets has long become the de facto standard. But the rating will still have to be lowered as to what I wanted to give initially. Main advantages:

It is a modern “digital camera”, the functionality of which perfectly complements the 30-fold zoom. The lens can focus at a distance of up to 5 centimeters, so that the device is universal for almost all types of amateur photography.
CMOS-matrix has a size of 1 / 2.3 "- quite a normal option for this price segment, and the resolution of 20 Mp, too. However, if the very fact of having an ultrazoom is not critical for you, then it is worth looking at other models - the picture quality of the DSC-HX60 is not the best compared to price counterparts. But if you remember that a couple of years ago this camera was worth 12-13 thousand, everything falls into place. Main advantages:

Action cameras continue to push “extreme soap dishes”, respectively, and the range of such cameras is reduced. The TIPA Best Rugged Camera 2018 award winner looks like the “last of the Mohicans”, but it justifies its purpose: the camera can dive to a 30-meter depth, fall onto a hard surface from a height of 2.4 m, and so on. And in addition to the functions of the camera, he got a GPS, a compass and a barometer. Of course, the purely photographic functions had to be sacrificed - a lens with a range of equivalent focal lengths of 24-120 mm allows changing the aperture value in a very narrow range, from 2.8 to 4.9. When focusing at small distances (and MDF it is only one centimeter) the depth of field is small, and to increase it, clamping the aperture, will not work. The presence of a stabilizer is attributed to unambiguous advantages, but the picture still remains soapy, and this “soap” can no longer be attributed to the movement of hands. In general, the camera can also write video, and not only 1080p at 60 fps, but also 4K / 30 fps. The bit rate is very high, the camera runs out of a four-gigabyte file size limit in 8-9 minutes, and the quality requirements of the SD card are high. At the same time, the image quality is comparable to what action cameras give at a similar price - but they are smaller and lighter, and offer the broadest installation possibilities even on the blades of a helicopter. So it is not surprising that the manufacturers of photographic equipment are increasingly losing interest in this format. Main advantages:

Moving the lens to the corner of the case is a common solution for cameras of this kind, although there are also concerns about the quality of optics. Indeed, it does not hit the aperture, but it is fully consistent with the capabilities of 1 / 2.3 "CMOS matrix of 16 megapixels. At the same time, the camera is not so expensive for a device capable of floating at a depth of up to 20 meters and falling from the hands on a hard surface.
From a camera capable of working in extreme conditions, I want to wait for a quick reaction, and the XP120 does not fail here: it is really ready for shooting right after switching on. But they still saved on the case material - it is quickly scratched, and especially quickly, unfortunately, the screen is scratched. You can “accept and forgive” by looking at the price tag ... but we will lower the rating. Main advantages:

Marketers of the company clearly know what mimicry is - the camera flaunts the inscription “Leica” on the lens and the stylized L in the corner of the case, but the Panasonic inscription on it will have to be searched. Well, we are only pleased with the high-quality optics - the Leica DC Summilux lens not only gives the opportunity to change the focal length within 24-72 mm in full-frame equivalent, but also has an excellent aperture ratio: f / 1.4 with the minimum focal length (though on an equivalent focal 30 mm, the relative aperture is reduced to f / 2.8, remaining so up to the zoom limit)! MDF at a minimum focal length - 3 centimeters, but, of course, with such a luminosity frame is not easy to build, the GRIP is very small. At maximum focal length, you can shoot from 30 centimeters. And, of course, the lens is equipped with an optical stabilizer. Sensor - inch, providing decent image quality up to ISO 1600. In general, the usual picture by modern standards. You should not shoot further in JPEG - the noise cancellation algorithm is aggressive and unnecessarily “soars” the image, it is better to choose to save to RAW and adjust the noise already in Lightroom. The main disadvantage of the camera is the lack of phase sensors for autofocus, which is why the focusing speed is not impressive. Of course, the model is not the newest, and compactness requires sacrifice, but focusing only on the contrast is already yesterday. Main advantages:

Slim and stylish body that fits perfectly into a woman's handbag, hides in itself remarkable talents: for example, the lens has a 12x optical zoom, and even with an optical image stabilizer! Of course, you will have to pay for the dimensions of aperture: the maximum aperture of 3.5 clearly hints at this.
The standard 1 / 2.3 "standard size for modern supercompacts does not strike with photosensitivity - the maximum number of ISO is 3200, and it should be used only as a last resort. When shooting at maximum resolution, the level of noise, and first of all red, will be excessively great. Nevertheless, the device is simple to operate, perfectly suited for use in the “pulled out, clicked and removed” style, and it also fixes the flaws of the shooting - quite a decent set. The Digic 4+ processor installed in it until recently could have been seen in cameras much more serious, and the TIPA Awards 2016 award does not fall from the sky itself. Due to the folding display, this camera is slightly out of bounds, which would be ideal for ultra-compact, but a lens with a 12-fold zoom can shoot at distances from 3 centimeters to infinity. And, fortunately, in the pursuit of marketing figures, Panasonic did not tear up the sensitivity and resolution of the matrix: even if there is only ISO 1600 and 16 million effective pixels, then there is not as much noise as the supercompacts of this price segment are glorious at maximum settings.
At the beginning of the article, we did not in vain say that supercompacts are in some ways a feminine technique. So, it is the folding display that activates the selfie mode here. How to choose a compact digital camera?
With a limited budget, the main way to assess the quality of the camera, having a few in front of you for comparison is to try to take a picture without stabilizing in dimming: you will immediately see how the noise of the matrices will differ, how comfortable the camera is at long exposures. It is more difficult to compare the quality of lenses - on the small screens you can’t catch distortion, but when printing photos on a large format, they will immediately reveal themselves. And the greater the range of focal lengths, the greater the likelihood of image distortion in the extreme positions of focusing - this is a clear price for universality.
If finances allow, the option with a replaceable lens will be more interesting - you can buy a whale for the first time, you can immediately pick up the "carcass" and the lens for yourself. The only "but" is that the difficulties with finding the lens can be a bit too much: most of the interchangeable optics are made under the popular bayonet of full-size "DSLRs", on the compact mirrorless dimensions the connecting dimensions of the optics are different. However, individual originals manage to cross modern digital cameras, even with Soviet optics.
A capacious battery is good, a quick-change battery is even better, and a rechargeable battery without a proprietary adapter is even better. Alas, the proprietary disease of many digital cameras, and in the first place - compact, is the discrepancy between the appetites of electronics and the capacity of the battery, so it’s common to carry around with frequent use of the camera. But the change of the battery is not always convenient - sometimes the battery compartment does not open attached attached tripod, such nuances should be checked immediately.
Have a good shopping!
