How to choose a visual optics?
Let's start with the decoding of the main parameters. As with any other optics, binoculars, monoculars and telescopes are primarily important. degree of approximation and lens diameter - the first determines the applicability (it makes no sense to take a 20-crib in the forest, and there may be a little 30-fold in the sea), the second indirectly indicates luminosity (the smaller the lens, the “darker”, other things being equal, optics). In the designation of the model, these parameters are always indicated - for example, 12x50 is 12x binoculars with 50mm lenses, and 8-12x42 with 42mm lenses allows you to vary the zoom from 8 to 12 times.
Choosing between zoom optics and having a fixed approximation, it must be remembered that, despite the greater versatility, binoculars with an adjustment of the approximation have a more complicated device and less aperture, so a good “zoom” will always be more expensive than a high-quality “fixed”. First of all, chromatic aberrations and distortion along the edges of the image will grow - this is very tiring for vision during long-term observations.
Do i need optical stabilizer? Of course, with a large zoom and handheld observation, it is very useful, but do not forget that the resistance to shocks from stabilized optics is many times greater. Therefore, no matter how much one would like to take stabilized binoculars on a hike or on a hunt, think about it - would you throw a lot of money on the air after an accidental fall? Small weight, durability and security are much more important in a hike, and in this regard nothing better than binoculars with a fixed approximation has yet been invented.
Binoculars with high approximationamateur astronomers are often used: binoculars, unlike a telescope, allow us to observe with both eyes, give a wide field of view and less tiring. But here you need to take into account such a parameter as twilight factor - it determines how well optics work in low light conditions, and there is no point in taking optics with a twilight factor of less than 17–18 at night.
