For motorists, this is definitely the choice of motor oil - just go to any forum, read reviews, and immediately find a multi-page discussion of the many oils offered by the market. No less popular are the various "ratings of the best motor oils."
Today, we move a little away from the usual structure of similar ratings - “the best mineral / semi-synthetic / synthetic oil”. The reason is simple: a particular engine requires, first of all, the oil viscosity specified by the manufacturer, and modern engines use low-viscosity lubricants (this is, as a rule, high-temperature viscosity 30, on many motors - 20). To discuss in this context something other than synthetics is stupid. No less strange is the division into categories “oil for gasoline / diesel engines,” given that 90% of modern oils have tolerances for use in both types of engines. It only makes sense to discuss purely “diesel” oil in relation to passenger cars in the segment of oils. designed for engines with particulate filters.
Therefore, today we will divide motor oils into categories of their specific use, and not according to virtual and not practical parameters:
- Oils with a high temperature viscosity of 40 (5W40 in our rating) - the best option for engines produced in the 90s - the beginning of the 2000s. For areas of the Far North, it makes sense to consider oil 0W40, this can significantly facilitate the start of the engine in the winter.
- 5W30 today it can be considered universal: this viscosity is used in budget cars and in engines of premium cars.
