Top 10 welder masks
In the practice of amateur welders, chameleon masks with automatic light filters have completely supplanted traditional masks with replaceable glasses. Often, they are used by professionals, retaining the usual mask only for work in the cold (when the “chameleons” begin to noticeably lag in switching on) or with several colleagues at the same time (the automation starts responding to light from a strange arc).
The reason for this is simple: with a fairly affordable price, the automatic mask makes the job of the welder an order of magnitude more convenient, makes it easier to practice the arc ignition skill for beginners and easily adapts to different working conditions. Turning off the light filter allows you to use a mask and to protect the eyes when cleaning joints with abrasive rollers and discs.
The most important parameter of the mask filter is its blackoutmeasured in arbitrary DIN units. Depending on the working conditions, a different density of the light filter is required: for argon arc welding or welding with a conventional electrode with the same current, a darker filter is needed than when welding with semi-automatic.
Budget masks usually have a minimum of settings - usually you can only change the reaction time and lightening delay by the regulators located inside, the degree of darkening is not adjustable. More expensive models have smooth dimming adjustments and reaction times taken out. The price level they have significantly different, so in the rating they are divided into two categories.

If you are looking for a good inexpensive welding mask-chameleon and are ready to sacrifice the size of the visor, but you want the adjustments to be accessible from the outside, you should pay attention to the "Patriot". Yes, the 92x42 mm visor is not so large, but it works out clearly, but absolutely all controls are accessible without removing the mask. Under the left hand - the dimming knob (9-13 DIN) and the auto-dimming slider, under the right hand - the sensitivity knob and the three-position delay time selector. The weight of the mask is a little more than a half a kilo, it is convenient for long wearing. Of course, her headband is rustic, but in general, the mask is worth its money. Main advantages:

At the price of Wester, the “Patriot” goes hand in hand, but it wins in it except in the mass (almost 20 percent less). But the visor itself is less here (90x35), and the range of blackouts is not limited to above 13 DIN, as usual, but only 11 DIN. There is only one external regulator - it sets the degree of darkening and turns off the automatic in the extreme position. Inside the panel smooth controls sensitivity and delay enlightenment. As a result, we recognize that the Wester welding mask clearly cannot compete with the Patriot, since the quality of the light filter is the same for them, but the Patriot is more convenient. A normal chameleon, works out as it should be a mask - of course, there are not enough sensors, this should be taken into account. |

Inexpensive welding mask with a minimum of adjustments: they, in general, and not at all.Even the pause and sensitivity are not tuned - and such adjustments, although stepwise, now offer even the most budgetary “Korundy” and others like them. So the mask works on a full automat, darkening from 4 DIN to 11 DIN if necessary. It is also impossible to turn off the automation, so when you try to work with the grinder you will have to face the blink of the visor. Although the visor for such a price is quite good in size - 98x35 mm. But in any case, the “Four Elements” mask was not the most successful, and it receives an appropriate place in the ranking of the best welding masks. Main advantages:

This mask has many "twins" from other Russian-Chinese brands. At the same time, they differ only in name: even the wing-like color prints on the sides of the mask are exactly the same in Resant and, for example, Corundum. Mask supply - combined, from a photo cell and the built-in accumulator. The main drawback of this scheme is that when the included mask is stored in the dark, the battery remains constantly discharged, in fact, the mask starts working only from the photocell. This may cause noticeable delays. The degree of darkening of the mask is fixed, equal to 11 DIN. This value is a compromise: it will seem unnecessary to many welders to work with a semiautomatic device, while at the same time when welding with an electrode with a diameter of 4-5 mm it will be insufficient. The response sensitivity of the filter is also not configured. Delay clarification - 0.5 s. The lack of adjustments makes the MS-4 mask sensitive to environmental conditions: in the cold, the reaction time will change significantly, and variations in the degree of darkening are possible. Chose mainly because of the price. I began to get frustrated in the fall, when it got colder in the garage: in the morning you could catch “bunnies”, the mask worked with a big delay. Now I would choose a better model. |
The best high-end welding masks
This welding mask is the undisputed leader in terms of price, functionality and quality in our ranking. It has two ranges of adjusting the degree of darkening, so that it is regulated in the widest limits - from 5 to 13 DIN. Work in difficult conditions is facilitated by the wide field of view (the size of the light filter in the masks of the Panoramic series is 100x93 mm) and the presence of four photosensors: if you accidentally close one or two, you will not be blinded due to the inactive dimming. Adjustment of the degree of darkening is made on the external controller on the side of the mask. His pen has a rough notch, making it easy to use in leggings. Sensitivity and delay time are adjusted by the regulators inside the mask - only because of this, the mask rating is reduced from full 10 points down. Sensitivity adjustment would be wiser to make it more accessible. For powering the electrical circuit, in addition to photocells, are also responsible for two replaceable batteries. To prolong their service life, it is better to store the mask in the mode switch that is in the “cutting” position when the photocell is forcibly turned off. Also available are mask options in red and silver design (Panoramic Red and Panoramic Silver). Main advantages:

The mask justifies its price for one hundred percent. The field of view is no worse than that of ordinary masks, but there are also all the advantages of a “chameleon”. The only negative, if I may say so, is a pity to scratch the paint. |
A great option for a welding chameleon mask for price, quality, convenience and performance. Judge for yourself - there is also a visor of a decent area (100x67 mm), and a conveniently located regulator of the degree of dimming, which in the extreme position takes the mask to GRIND mode (deactivating the automatic dimming). At the same time, the range of the “blackness” of the visor is set inside the mask with a slider. In the first position, the blackout is adjustable in the range from 5 to 8 DIN, in the second - 9-13 DIN. Inside, the panel contains controls for sensitivity and enlightenment delay. The visor itself is a bit darkish in the off state (4 DIN), but this is not a serious drawback. We also note a comfortable and firmly holding headband size, an acceptable mask weight, which does not overload the neck during prolonged use. The power supply is double - a solar battery and two lithium batteries. Unlike the models on one battery, the mask “lives” without replacing them much longer, although the costs of replacing come out the same in the end: which one is replaced more often, and two less often. Excellent mask, their money is definitely - for the more expensive, only the visor is wider, that's all. |

Excellent welding chameleon mask with a 99x55 mm size visor having a blackout in the off state 4 DIN. Auto-dimming (9-13 DIN) is regulated from the outside, on the other side of the mask, the sensitivity adjuster and the “welding-stripping” switch are installed on the side. The switch, alas, is inconvenient - it is difficult to use it in gaiter. Inside the mask, only the time delay switch and the battery check button remained. The delay is not smoothly regulated, only three positions of the slider are provided: short / medium / long delay. In general, the lack of a smooth adjustment is not so scary, in general, the mask can be safely given a worthy place in the rating. Unless working at low currents will not always be convenient for her, nevertheless, masks are better suited for this purpose, allowing to set shading to less than 9 DIN. Main advantages:

One of the leaders in sales of the Russian market of welding masks "chameleon". In comparison with the leader of the rating, this mask has a smaller filter size - 95x55 mm, and the dimming adjustment has only one range of 9-13 DIN. But for most welding jobs this is more than enough, and a lower price is an additional incentive to choose this particular mask. Unlike the top-quality Panoramic series, not only the adjustment of the degree of dimming, but also the response sensitivity is brought out. Due to this, the transition between different welding modes in the Optima 9-13 Visor mask is quite convenient. The mask power supply is combined, from a photo cell and a battery with a voltage of 3 V. The “Grind” mode is used for storing or cleaning seams, in which the light filter is forced off. The body of the mask is made of lightweight (weight in the collection - 500 g) of impact-resistant plastic. Its only drawback is the color chosen by the manufacturer for the white color of the design; when using a mask in regulators, eye-catching spots remain on its surface. Main advantages:

According to the characteristics of this welding mask seemed to me the best. Regulators outside, do not have to remove the mask to adjust the settings. |

Welding mask with a wide field of view and light glass in the off state - 3 DIN. So you can work in it with a grinder, and with abrasive cones (besides with impact resistance, for every fireman, the visor is also fine), without fear of missing something due to the dark glass. Dimming is adjusted smoothly in the range from 4 to 13 DIN. The available settings are sensitivity and delay for turning off dimming. The power is the same as that of most masks of this class from a lithium battery, and it is easy to check it before starting work: press the TEST button on the inner panel and, if the control indicator does not light, change the battery. The main claim to the "Aurora" - is that all the regulators are located inside, that is, for each change of settings you need to remove the mask. Remote control would be much more convenient, right? And the cheaper SUN-7 has it all! Main advantages:

In fact - the same Fubag, but under a different name. I use mostly on the same setting, so that the internal regulators do not strain. |

Goy say, swarm! To be honest, the pricing policy of the brand looks weird: for this money you can find a welding mask with a wider angle of view, and with an external regulator. Here, the size of the visor is only 96x47 mm, and all the regulators are hidden inside. What is available to us? First of all, it is an auto-dimming switch, and for safety it has its own indicator light. Now it is impossible to accidentally “pick up bunnies” by putting on a disconnected mask and grabbing a five-electrode on a stainless steel (the author guarantees that sensations after a couple of hours will be unforgettable). If the LED is lit - everything is in order, you can cook. Off - the mask is disabled. In the second turn - dimming regulator, single-range (9-13 DIN). In the third - a smooth adjustment of the response sensitivity and enlightenment delay. Well, like the cherry on the cake - LED "control" of the charge of the two installed batteries. This is all well and good, but isn't the overpayment too big for two LEDs? Of course, we do not argue - and you might like this mask, but we will not give it a high score. Main advantages:

What welding mask is better to buy?
The choice of welding mask should be approached responsibly. Even if it will be used rarely, you should not save on your vision. The insidiousness of a retinal burn is that it cannot be noticed right away: a seemingly trifling missed flash will make itself felt only a few hours later with a pain in the eyes.
But a quality mask is not only safety. Due to the correct selection of light transmission, you can get the best overview of the welding zone, and therefore the best way to control its progress.
