It was bought as a companion soap box for Canon 5D Mark III, and this is due to the choice of brand. The main motive was the availability of connectivity to a compact carcass through an adapter of EF lenses, which were already in stock.
I drew attention to the price reduction to $ 300-350 in American stores, and then I realized that you can buy not much more expensive in Russia, which I did. I immediately bought a complete set with 18-55mm and 22mm lenses, flash and an adapter to the EF / EF-S, so as not to go several times.
I didn’t wait for the miracles from the matrix taken from an inexpensive DSLR, it makes noise from ISO 400 and further, but if you use the built-in noise, you can immediately get good JPG photos, and then RAW process it if you need to improve something. If you don’t compare quality with FF, but look at soap dishes similar in price, then the photos are not bad.
I was very pleased with the complete 22mm lens, which in translation into FF turns out to be 35mm. It is a good option for every day. But 18-55, albeit with a stub, does not particularly shine.
After installation via an adapter, EF lenses, such as sigma 50mm 1.4 (80mm on a crope), Canon EF 85mm F1.8 (135mm on a crope), the picture began to delight even more. Pancake Canon EF40mm STM (64mm on crope) looked interesting and gave sharp photos, especially not standing out against the size of the regular 18-55.
I noticed that it is not so convenient to hold the camera with one hand because of a very small protrusion, and the second hand holding the lens sometimes closes the autofocus backlight.
Autofocus even slows down on firmware 2.02, which is praised (I can imagine what a great deal it was before it was released), but I used to use different cameras, there were more braking ones.
The overall impression is very good, especially after devastating reviews.

In the settings, it is possible to turn on a completely continuous focus, but when you press the shutter, the camera does not immediately take a picture, but first the lens pulls back and forth, so the whole point is lost, only the battery is wasted. Here in the Nikon 1 hybrid instantly focuses. But there the quality of the picture is lousy ... In the EOS M2, autofocus was done elegantly, but it is still only sold in Japan, although it was released last year.
I myself can not tolerate a flash, and therefore use it extremely rarely, the absence of it does not bother me. And there is a whale with an external compact flash. But many lovers love it, without it they are not able to shoot in a bad light. They will be uncomfortable. Again, the Nikon 1 has no built-in one, and it is even smaller than the Canon (but the matrix is much smaller there).

The same Nikon 1 has such lenses (although the EGF 50 mm is too big, and the EGF 85 mm costs a lot of money). You can, of course, put the Sigma 30mm f / 1.4 and one of the many 50-mm lenses through an adapter on the EF-S, but the design is no longer the most compact, the question arises why to take a mirrorless.

Changing the settings on the touch screen is a bit unusual, but you get used to the menu and then everything works very fast. Amateurs on a professional photo do not change faster, but there is a text hint for each item, which makes life easier for amateurs.
I recommend everyone who needs a compact camera for home / tourist shooting. If you do not have enough money for a full frame, then consider the krupnye SLR even somehow no longer makes sense. By the way: Sony has a full frame without a mirror, a very compact camera, but the price is completely different there.
