Top 10 antifreeze
For an automobile engine (with rare exceptions — if you are unlucky to have a Zaporozhets or lucky old Porsche), antifreeze is no less important than engine oil: unfortunately, most of the heat released during the combustion of fuel has to be dispersed into the atmosphere. So the reliability of the heat sink and the ability to use the car all year round is the first thing worth saying “thank you” to antifreeze.
But sooner or later, everyone will have to choose antifreeze, except perhaps the owners of new cars with a “lifetime” fill - the rest of the regulations require regular replacement of coolant. However, even without routine replacements, sooner or later it will have to affect the cooling system during repairs, draining the old antifreeze - so maybe, after all, replace it with a new one? However, the question "what antifreeze to buy?" Can pretty strain your head. Someone, having listened to the neighbors in the garages, goes to choose antifreeze by color - this is true, the trouble is that the color of antifreeze, depending on its properties, is not standardized by strict rules, two antifreeze of the same color can have completely different composition. And the same antifreeze can be supplied in different colors for different plants: for example, CoolStream Premium, in retail orange, at the Kaluga Volvo plant goes already yellow, in the Opel of the St. Petersburg assembly it was pink, and Yaroslavl poured it all Komatsu diesel engines are already blue! Someone recollects the “Volkswagen” classification, but the store begins to think - “can I pour G12 ++ if my G12 is the same figure?”.
For convenience, we will write about the differences between different classes of antifreeze in conclusion, and now we’ll proceed to the more interesting - we will begin to rake the canister deposits on the shelves of car shops to choose the ones that really should be paid attention to, and which “type of antifreeze” is better to bypass by the side.

Top Hybrid Antifreeze (G11)
Sintec Ultra G11
690 (5 l)
Here the main feature is the temperature of the onset of crystallization, which exceeds the requirements with a margin: antifreeze remains operable right up to -45 degrees Celsius. In addition, it also shows excellent anti-corrosion properties (it seems that they did not regret the inhibiting additives) - it is compatible with aluminum and copper radiators. And all this at a very affordable price. Is that the alkaline number he is still not enough. On the other hand, at such a price, it can be changed at least every six months - one check-in to refuel a full tank and that will cost more than the Syintek canister. So antifreeze gets the first place in the ranking deservedly - it works as it should and the budget does not strain, what else do you want? Main advantages:

Cheap, angry and reliable - never had problems with this antifreeze. |
SINTEC EURO G11
550 (5 l)
At first glance, “Euro” differs from “Ultra” only by a higher temperature at which crystallization begins — minus 40 degrees. So, is it just the same antifreeze diluted with water? In fact, there is no - a higher base number for “Euro” indicates, for example, a different composition, which would not be at “dilution”. Be that as it may, both of these antifreeze have the same service life (3 years), and both with a margin met the requirements of the standards. The cheaper “Euro” antifreeze is quite suitable for use in most regions of Russia, except that in the coldest and hottest regions, “Ultra” is preferable due to lower crystallization temperature and a higher boiling point. Motul Inugel Expert Ultra
1 450 (5 l)
Antifreeze Motul, which is traditional for this brand, is expensive, but compensates for the price with quality. We will begin at least with the list of manufacturers who have given their antifreeze to this antifreeze - here you are at least VAZ, even Porsche. The finished antifreeze fits into the crystallization temperature declared and set by the standard, although with a small but small supply (-38 degrees), which is distinguished by the absence of any noticeable aggressiveness towards aluminum and a high alkaline number. The last thing he "loves" copper alloys and solder, but not going beyond the tolerances of standards. In a word, we are not the cheapest, but made in full compliance with the requirements of the standards and high-quality antifreeze. But, of course, it is worth buying it in large stores, and not on the car market - alas, they also like to fake it from us. Main advantages:

Top Carboxylate Antifreeze (G12 / G12 +)
Coolstream premium
790 (5 l)
We already mentioned this antifreeze at the beginning of the article. So, used by many Russian assembly plants as factory-made antifreeze, it undoubtedly deserves interest. “Factory” operating fluids, as we have already pointed out more than once, are usually chosen as “strong middling” - characteristics that do not shine with record figures, but reliably perform their work and are stable in quality - when purchases are made in such quantities that the automobile plant needs, An “unsuccessful” batch can seriously hit the company's pocket for warranty repairs.
CoolStream has become just such a "middling." Especially when creating it, they didn’t wrestle with - Belgian-made Havoline XLB concentrate was used here, which allows antifreeze to not only confidently meet the requirements of the standards, but also to beat them well by the initial boiling point and the initial temperature of crystallization. He maintains the usual five years of the replacement interval calmly, forgiving the owners of “forgetfulness” for a year or two without any problems. So deservedly give him his vote: for such money is a great option. Main advantages:

I took the factory one to replace it - that completely suited me, so I don’t see any sense in changing the brand, especially at such a price. |
LIQUI MOLY Langzeit Kuhlerfrostschutz GTL 12 Plus
2 100 (Price per pack 5 liters)
This, undoubtedly, quality antifreeze brings the price - it is more than two times higher than that of the CoolStream, but according to the characteristics they go head to head. Corresponds to the "Volkswagen" class G12 +, that is, compatible with antifreeze G12 and G11, the remnants of the old fluid in the cooling system for it will not be a problem. The five years that are usually put in place for antifreeze from replacement to replacement are stable, perfectly compatible with aluminum radiators, and the list of tolerances even includes brands that many have not heard of. But, anyway, the price fails - so only the second place in the ranking of the best antifreeze G12. Main advantages:

SINTEC LUX G12
580 (5 l)
In this section of the ranking of the best antifreeze, Sintek fell down - it was announced by the declared class G12: such antifreeze should not be mixed with already filled antifreeze of any other classes according to the VAG specification. At the same time, which is typical, to add to the cooling system, filled with G12 antifreeze, Volkswagen allows at least G12 +, even G12 ++. Due to such a “reduced” universality, we will inevitably cut the rating score. As part of its class, Sintek is confident. By the way, if your car left the Togliatti conveyor later than 2011, then this particular brand of antifreeze is flooded in it. He has a good supply of temperatures, moderate chemical activity - do not forget to change according to the regulations, and there will not be any serious problems with him. Main advantages:

Felix Carbox G12
690 (5 l)
The products of Tosol-Sintez-Invest LLC are great for use in all cars and trucks. Absolutely in any: seriously loaded, with a forced engine, turbocharged, involved in a difficult climate, and so on. in all cars and trucks, including heavily loaded, forced, turbocharged and intercooled, operated in difficult climatic and road conditions. Antifreeze allows the cooling system of the machine ideally to perform its function in the range of outside temperatures from - 45 to +50 ° C. The advantage of Felix Carbox G12 is the "address system" of protection against corrosion, which blocks rust centers, thus forming a protective layer with a thickness of about 0.1 micron. Top lobride antifreezes (G12 ++)
SINTEC UNLIMITED G12 ++
720 (5 l)
Not just G12 ++, but truly Volkswagen compliant for this class of antifreeze: this is confirmed by certification and use for factory fill. As a matter of fact, it is the only widespread antifreeze of class G12 ++, produced in Russia - so in its price category it has no competitors, and imported antifreezes will inevitably be more expensive.
Moreover, all antifreeze, naturally, with a good margin fit into the technical requirements (otherwise it would be in the rating and did not hit, logical?), Has a long service life. Yes, of course, lobride antifreezes are considered to be “eternal” (as the name Unlimited hints at), but the plant itself in the technical description published on the website indicates very specific numbers - for cars it is 500,000 km or five years of “life” in the engine. As it is logical - the aging of antifreeze has so far been successfully won only in the minds of marketers. If we recall the price, then we shouldn’t talk about the costlyness of the routine replacement of antifreeze: it costs, in general, at the level of other high-quality antifreezes produced in Russia. Other Sintekovsky antifreezes did not let me down, after repair (they changed the radiator after an accident) I filled this one - especially since it seemed to be from the factory and was flooded. |
Ravenol LTC - Protect C12 ++ Premix -40 ° C
1 770 (5 l)
And here is the confirmation of the above: “Ravenol” for the same volume is more than two times more expensive. It fully complies with the declared class, having not only the “Volkswagen” admission, but also acquiring approval specifically for Porsche cars, where the cooling system conditions are not the most comfortable (you can ask yourself what size radiators are on the same Boxster, and where they are stuck ). A useful feature of this antifreeze is that a dye glowing in the ultraviolet was originally included in its composition - it’s easier to look for leaks, you only need a UV flashlight. And, by the way, the manufacturer immediately honestly writes about the five-year replacement interval, without any “service life is unlimited”. For this, we give him his due, but the price spoils the whole impression. Main advantages:

Best G13 Antifreeze
Coolstream g13
800 (5 liters)
This domestic (albeit, produced on imported components) antifreeze is inexpensive and does not go beyond the technical requirements for class G13. So its use in the factory fill on the Russian conveyor of the same VAG is not at all surprising. By the way, if you consider that G13 antifreezes should be necessarily propylene glycol, then you have to upset - alas, when diluted to the finished product, the plant uses a concentrate of 73% ethylene glycol and 20% glycerol. However, even the original “Volkswagen” G13 is also made on ethylene glycol - and by definition it is the “most correct” G13.
But in any case, we face high-quality antifreeze at a good price - so, if we are talking about the choice of the G13, it is logical. Main advantages:

Motul Inugel G13 Ultra
3 865 (5 l)
Motul in his repertoire - for the magic numbers “13”, they want to ask us, frankly, an absolutely indecent price for a five-liter canister. Perhaps even though it is propylene glycol? In fact, there is no - and here a composition based on a mixture of ethylene glycol and glycerin is used.
So, why so much money? Honestly, it is difficult to understand - according to the temperature characteristics, for example, the finished antifreeze does not stand out by anything, by chemical activity it is again quite standard. Therefore, the expected score - I'm sorry, gentlemen, it is worth being more moderate in requests. Main advantages:

Antifreeze has not changed color in five years, the car works fine - I want to believe that it’s worth my money for nothing. |
What antifreeze choose?
Let's start with a little insight into history. At one time, we didn’t have a special choice of coolants - water, which in the winter had to be drained overnight, and good old Tosol, which many still consider to be some kind of special liquid. In fact, this is, of course, the typical representative of old ethylene glycol antifreezes, and the question "which is better - antifreeze or antifreeze"Formally meaningless. Why formal? Because those liquids that are now being produced under the name “Antifreeze” by anyone else (and this is, in fact, the trademark inherited by the Federal State Unitary Enterprise GosNIIOKHT from the Soviet Scientific Research Institute of Organic Chemistry and Technology) often do not meet any technical requirements (!) and contain methanol, what can we say about the freezing temperature. Considering that even the old antifreezes of the “Volkswagen” class G11 already use more effective additives and a longer service life, now it does not make sense to choose Tosol.
And now let's talk exactly about Volkswagen accepted documentation classes. They differ from each other primarily in the composition and mechanism of action of the additive package. The fact is that with all its positive properties, ethylene glycol is not only poisonous, but also corrosive - so the additives in antifreeze actually protect the cooling system from the antifreeze itself in the first place.
AT G11 antifreeze silicate additives are used primarily (as in the Soviet Tosol) - their mechanism of action is very simple, a film is formed on the surfaces of the parts, preventing direct contact with ethylene glycol. But it also worsens the heat sink - therefore, as the forcing of automobile engines grows G12 antifreeze on the carboxylate basis, in which the additives are already working "pointwise", in the foci of corrosion. Such antifreezes last longer and are now the most common, especially G12 +having improved properties and compatibility with other types. If G12 and G11 cannot be mixed, then G12 + can already be added in both G11 and G12 (roughly speaking, the composition of G12 + additives is something between these types).
G12 ++ loebride antifreeze - This is a combination of organic corrosion inhibitors with all the same silicates. From here - and compatibility with other antifreezes, and high service life: factory fill can be calculated for the entire life of the car. That, however, should not be considered an ultimatum recommendation - let the replacement intervals be increased, but from time to time such antifreeze should be changed if the car is not bought for a year or two.
But with G13 The situation is generally interesting. For some reason, the statement that such antifreezes are made only on the basis of propylene glycol constantly roams from site to site in RuNet, but even the original “Volkswagen” antifreeze of this class is not. In fact, of course, environmentalists put their hand to the emergence of this type of antifreeze, but the improvement of "environmental friendliness" here is almost always achieved by replacing part of ethylene glycol with glycerol. In terms of the composition of the additives, these antifreezes also belong to lobride, and can be easily mixed with them.
