Top 10 H4 bulbs
By modern standards, lamps with H4 cap, combining the threads and low and high beam, can be safely considered obsolete - automakers either completely refuse from halogen lamps on premium cars, or "dilute" the near and far in different segments of the optical system on machines of budget and middle class. This makes sense and an economic plan - when one of the filaments burns out, the bulb still has to be completely changed, although in the second mode it continues to shine normally.
And it is precisely the “doubleness” of H4 lamps that only complicates the choice. In recent H7 lamp rating We have already mentioned that the quality of light depends very much on the geometry of the lamp, the location of the filament in it and its design. With the H4 lamps, an interesting situation arises - a lamp that works perfectly in the “near” mode can give, if not disgusting, then at least an absolutely unimpressive long-range one. The work of both threads on the common reflector and the lens of the optical element of the headlamp affects - make a little mistake with at least one thread (or with the internal screen of the low-beam thread), and the lamp that looks good at first glance will not suit the second one. Therefore, although it seemed that the participants in today's ranking of the best H4 lamps will line up on the same principle as in the H7 lamps rating, in fact, it did not turn out quite that way.

Top Standard H4 Halogen Bulbs
Osram Original H4
150 (cardboard, 1 pc.)
In this section of the rating, the favorite is preserved - Osram's Original Line lamps in the H4 base, as in the case of the H7 base, proved to be excellent. With one “but” (and this “but” we will mention more than once) - they have a great dipped beam, but in high beam mode the lamp was clearly “strangled” with a margin: it won't strike the oncoming drivers with a power of a diesel searchlight , but at the cost of reducing the range of coverage. It is this balance that often makes it difficult to choose H4 lamps.
But all the advantages are also evident: halogen lamps H4 Original Line are inexpensive, they “walk well”, and, which is also important, they are distinguished by stable quality. And in one case, the “understated” high beam will even be a plus: do you, by any chance, have a motorcycle with just such a socle in the headlight? That's it in the high-mounted headlamps such lamps work perfectly, because in the high-mounted headlamp the slightest derangement causes it to strike directly into the eyes of oncoming car drivers. Just good and inexpensive H4 bulbs. Never failed in quality. |
NARVA H4 STANDARD 48881
100 (cardboard, 1 pc.)
But the outsider of the past rating was pleasantly surprised this time: the low-cost light bulb on the quality of the passing beam was completely equal to Osram, demonstrating excellent illumination and correct light distribution. If your car drives around the city most of the time, when only the low beam is working, Narva will work just as well, and considering the price, this option for buying will be even more interesting. In the far zone of the right shoulder “Narva” gives even better illumination - hmm, we have already seen a similar picture in the case of H7 lamps.
Outside the city, the prioritization will be different. The creators of the lamp either miscalculated something, or deliberately weakened the main beam even more than the Osram Original Line - to be honest, the “Narva” is not impressive. Therefore, we recommend the NARVA H4 lamps, but with the obligatory postscript: “only for the city”. Main advantages:

I drive around the city, that is, the question of price is important to me - I have to change regularly. At the same time, the neighbor with them is really good. |
Philips Crystal Vision H4
950 (plastic, 2 pcs. + 2 W5W lamps)
Good halogen bulbs in the H4 base, which the price brings: even taking into account that they are not sold in a banal “carton”, but in a presentable plastic package, and also bulbs are added to the headlamp, it is still expensive.
The advantages of the lamps are definitely attributed to the correctly chosen color temperature - although the lamps do not shine so impressively as all sorts of “improved” models with subscriptions from “plus 30” to “plus one hundred and twenty” (why, in fact, we put them in the “standard” section rating - their luminous flux is even slightly below normal), the quality of lighting is very high. By working in the high beam, they will be even more interesting than Osram and even more so Narva. Here, in the near light, they most likely have a parity - it seems that Philips draws objects on the side of the road and the pits on the asphalt are somewhat clearer, but the real "range" of headlights is absolutely the same. If we consider that the H4 lamps still work most of the time on the “near” one, and at the price of Philips outdid everyone, the result is obvious: only the third place. Main advantages:

On the track with them I feel more comfortable, and in the city they help out at night. Expensive, really. |
Top H4 bulbs with increased light output
Osram Night Breaker Laser H4
1 500 (plastic, 2 pcs.)
The updated lamp from Osram was hung up with titles like the Mother of Dragons: their full name now sounds like Osram Night Breaker Laser Next Generation + 150%, the second of that name, GOST approved, white light, breaking the night, rating winners ... stop, the author brought something save us Seven. Well, you caught the main difference - now they promise us not 130 percent of the increase in illumination, but all 150.
Powerful luminous flux without overt "distortions" of illumination is the indisputable advantage of Night Breaker Laser lamps. Moreover, the illumination is high and purely physically (in lumens), and "by eye": do not forget that the perception of light by the eye is also very dependent on the color temperature. Equally well, they will show themselves in the city and on the highway. At the same time, the manufacturer also provided a sufficient resource. Alas, you have to pay for it significantly for your pocket - at the price of five shifts of a set of ordinary H4 lamps! Nevertheless, in this rating of the best H4 Osram lamps it wins a convincing victory: if you need really bright, but at the same time fully fit to the standards and not dazzling the "oncoming" headlight lamps, then this option will be very "tasty." They shine like a searchlight, but without jambs - inspection passes quietly, they do not hit on an opposite. |
Philips Vision Plus H4
600 (plastic, 2 pieces)
If not in absolute brightness, then in terms of the quality of light to price, these H4 lamps deserve the highest score. Indeed, in comparison with the majority of “reinforced” lamps, the H4 kit will cost two, or even more than two times cheaper! And at the same time, the producer keeps promises to improve the lighting: they shine really well. Not chasing high figures of color temperature, the manufacturer made the lamps comfortable for sight and did not reduce their life excessively - they serve, on average, like ordinary lamps, where the temperature of the filament is still smaller. We can definitely recommend them for the city - a good light is combined with low costs for regular replacement by the standards of this segment of the automotive lamp market. On the track, of course, more "long-range" Osram look preferable. Main advantages:

They shine perfectly, compared with more expensive ones - if there is a difference, then it is not worth the money. |
Koito WhiteBeam III H4
1 670 (plastic, 2 pcs.)
These lamps were pleasantly surprised in something - single-stranded Koito, I remember, with enviable constancy failed tests because of the frankly “curved” light distribution. But the lamps H4, oddly enough, fit into all the requirements of GOST!
Do not be frightened by the inscriptions on the package (and the 125 / 135W figures really cause legitimate concern if the wiring will not smoke): in fact, the manufacturer did not mean electrical power, but some kind of “light equivalent” - they say, our lamps shine like luminaries would be a “halogen” of such power. In terms of actual power consumption, the Koito does not differ from standard lamps. Lamps demonstrate excellent illumination of the curb, both in the near and in the far zone. With the long-range, too, everything is fine - the lamps do not hit the oncoming drivers of the lamp, while also giving a good “range”. But, best of all, there is also a service life at a height, although it is the “reinforced” lamps that are not famous for their long life. Nevertheless, with any honey, we are happy to add tar. Firstly, the number of words that are not clear, and even Latin letters on the package can be counted on fingers: everything else is exclusively in Japanese. Of course, we, gaijins, are second-class people, but why is this so clearly emphasized? Well, the price of this fruit of the works of the sons of Amaterasu is still tall for a set of two lamps. Put in the lights for a long time - and I go. Shine brightly, "tick" at the headlights clear. |
Bosch Xenon Silver H4
1 100 (cardboard, 2 pieces)
If in the rating of H7 lamps the expectedly high place was received by the Plus 90 series lamps, then today others showed themselves best of all: Xenon Silver H4 lamps in practice shine not only not worse in visual sensations, but also “long-range”. Here it is - the correct effect of the color temperature of light on the eye and a good design miscalculation. Lamps are shining with white light, and not with a twist of “collective xenon”, as one might suspect by name. Another thing is that not everyone likes it - it's up to you to decide. The light distribution of the lamps is correct, there are no problems with “under-lighting” of certain sections of the road or blinding of oncoming drivers. Unfortunately, Bosch got an expected miscalculation in one thing - the resource of these lamps is not the highest, which levels the price difference with Koito or Osram: they “walk” longer, and they shine, in general, better. Top H4 bulbs with extended life
Bosch Longlife Daytime H4
260 (blister, 1 pc.)
In the “long-livers” section, Bosch again wins - perhaps all the advantages that we described for lamps with the H7 base of this series can be repeated now. Lamps do not suffer from “undershot”, which sacrifices the quality of lighting to a resource — the light is no worse than that of “standard” lamps, and on both threads. And the price does not wake up the Toad, which so likes to knock down the enthusiasm of the Hamster, already anticipating the absence of the need to once again get into the headlights.
True, again it is worth lamenting the fact that for some reason these lamps are not so often found in “offline” stores. Of course, it is clear that in the long run it is more profitable to sell good, but “srednezhivushchie” lamps - but, after all, you can buy these lamps on all kinds of “existentialists” and “auto-tracks” without any problems. Good light, no complaints about the service life, although the generator voltage gives high. |
Philips LongLife EcoVision H4
400 (plastic, 2 pcs.)
The lamps are yellowish in the near light, but they shine well in the far. It seems that the manufacturer reasoned reasonably - most often the dipped beam works in H4 lamps, and the distant one almost always survives it. Therefore, it is possible to “strangle” the passing beam, leaving the characteristics of the far beam at the level of standard lamps.
This option, which is also relatively inexpensive, has its “right to life” - if a car drives around the city with low beams on constantly, then its reduced brightness will cause discomfort rarely, only at dusk and on unlit roads. But then the speed of movement is usually low, so that the fall in the "range" of the passing beam cannot be considered critical. But on the track it will already be possible to have a good high-quality light. The light distribution, by the way, is normal for the lamps, without any complaints from us. As for the resource, Philips can be safely recommended as lamps for a car without daytime running lights: they serve for a long time, clearly justifying the price. Main advantages:

Tired of burning the lamp during the day, I tried these - well, yes, they are rather weak, but they go and walk. |
Osram Ultra Life H4
500 (plastic, 2 pcs.)
If in the rating of H7 lamps, the “long-livers” from Osram performed indistinctly, but still deserved second place, now they only get the latter. They shine, though in accordance with the requirements of the standards, but with a frank yellowness - let's add to this no longer the new optics of many cars that use lamps with such a base, and as a result the light will be clearly insufficient. They are suitable except for the "pensioner" drive, but no more. In addition, the promised high resource remains often promised. This is not to say that the overpayment in comparison with the Osram Original Line will justify itself. Main advantages:

I didn’t wait for it to burn out - I decided to put it brighter after all. |
Which H4 lamp is better to choose?
So, the “duality” of the lamps in the H4 base makes you think first - how will they be used?
If the machine is operated predominantly in the town, and even mostly during the day, you should look at the lamps with an increased service life: slightly, perhaps, having lost in brightness, you can save a good deal on replacements. But, if driving frequently and on dimly lit roads, it would be preferable if not “enhanced”, then at least the standard resource of the H4 lamp with high-quality dipped beam.
But with frequent driving on the highway Pay attention to the quality and low and high beam. On the "near" headlights should not "look at themselves", but a good range of lighting should not be combined with the "overexposure" in the direction of the oncoming lane.
In any case, pay attention to markings. The absence of signs of European certification, not to mention the direct indication “for off-road use” or “not for sale in Europe” makes you wonder how these lamps shine. Although on some UAZ for trips into the dirt, quad bike or on a hard enduro, these lamps go and go - there is no one in the field and forest of the oncoming lane, there is no one to blind, except for hunters in the bushes. In this regard, by the way, Japanese and Korean lamps with hundreds of hieroglyphs, but a minimum of at least English text require special attention - who guarantees that that string of hieroglyphs does not mean “don't even dare to go to the field, blinded low-flying planes”?
