In addition, sudden cooling (up to minus 70 degrees Celsius) with carbon dioxide heated objects can damage them more than the fire itself.
- Air Foam Fire Extinguishers they are distinguished by a long time of spraying this foam, but they do not like the cold, and the foam itself is corrosive. They are also unsuitable for extinguishing circuits under voltage - therefore their applicability is less wide than that of powder or carbon dioxide ones, and it is meaningful to “prescribe” such a model only in a heated room.
- Air emulsion, in contrast to air-foam fire extinguishers, they also work at negative temperatures, have a minimal secondary hazard (that is, the fire extinguisher itself does little to harm the salvaged property). Which fire extinguisher to choose?
To get started, let's go through the classes that are standard for fire extinguishers:
- Class A - solid combustible substances (this includes both oily rags and the wall of a rustic five-wall wall - the difference in scale)
- Class B - liquid combustible substances (most obviously - spilled gasoline)
- Class C - gaseous substances. Here, first of all, it is not the physical symptom itself that is important, but the ability of the jet to escape under pressure (for example, if the restrictive valve of the automobile HBO operates).
- Class D - the ignition of metals, which in normal practice is unrealistic (unless you have a stock of magnesium chips in the garage)
- Class E - the extinguishing of electrical installations, the lack of conductance of the reagent itself is important here - otherwise it will be able to do more things than the fire itself.
For common fire extinguishers, a sign of quality is the (at least declared) AVSE class. Such a fire extinguisher will be as versatile as possible. But if the manufacturer is not a gossip and honestly declared the ALL class - such a fire extinguisher, alas, should be ignored. The fact is that it is the A class extinguishing that is most demanding - a fire extinguisher that can knock down a surface flame or deprive oxygen of limited space can leave a fire in the depths of smoldering. Spend, if you wish, a simple experiment: try to extinguish a properly laid out fire.
In addition, it is important not only how the fire extinguisher is potentially charged with the active substance, but also how it uses it. First of all, it is critical for fire extinguishers that use gas pressure to eject the reagent - no matter how efficient the reagent is, does it make sense if the working pressure creeps down in six months? In this regard, of course, carbon dioxide fire extinguishers are the most reliable - oh, if they would also be effective and safe ...
At a minimum, one should focus on the warranty period claimed by the manufacturer - even taking into account the fact that very few people will apply for a guarantee with an inexpensive model, this still gives a certain assurance of quality. In an already purchased fire extinguisher, often pay attention to the control gauge (for powder, air foam and air emulsion fire extinguishers it is mandatory): if the arrow crawls to the left noticeably, then it is better to replace such a fire extinguisher.
